On the draft pick, Dallas doesn't do well in the second round, so give up a 2nd round pick.

Then on the issue at DE:

Outside of the off-the-field stuff, Greg Hardy is exactly what the Cowboys need. A young (26) defensive end with proven production rushing the passer. If they can get him at a reasonable price, and the suspension is not too big, AND he stays out of any trouble and turns his life around from the ugly incident that has been attached to his name, then Dallas scored big in free agency.

You're right.. But not with this guy.

Peterson is just different. He'll be a productive RB for 3 or 4 more years.

I'll believe in Superman when I see him scale tall buildings with a single bound.

Uh, who has said this is just a get together to get to know each other?

Also, it's been mentioned by the team in the past that Jerry is the closer in negotiations. Where's the inside info?

As Wreck-It Ralph sez:
I'm bad and that's good. I'll never be good, and that's not bad.
The Cowboys could use a little bad for the good of their team.

I definitely wouldn't give up a 1st. Primarily because of his age and limited shelf life we'd see. Sure, it'd be "worth" it if it resulted in a Super Bowl, but as you said there is no guarantee. And without a guarantee, it just doesn't seem like great business to me.

I'd be more willing to part with a late 2nd and even more so a late 3rd, but I still think it's generally bad business to give up high draft picks for veterans. A little research could prove me wrong, but it's just not a move that seems to work out that frequently.

I've rethought the offer I would make to them, based on what it is said the Vikings want.

I'd offer them Morris Claiborne (who might could live up to his draft hype with a change of scenery) and one of our backs (Randle, Williams or Dunbar), plus a conditional second-round pick in the 2016 draft.

The condition would be the pick is nullified if Claiborne ends up playing more than half of the season as one of Minnesota's top three corners and if Peterson doesn't average at least 4 yards per carry. That way both teams are protected from the trade being a mistake.

The Vikings would stand the chance of getting a starting-caliber corner if they can turn Claiborne's fortunes around or getting the second-round pick they are seeking if he doesn't work out.

On how Jerry goes into a negotiations with a player, does he speak first or last or what?

In the case of Hardy, Jerry isn't speaking at all. The negotiations is being done by Stephen. And while some say this is a get together just to get to know each other, this is a serious negotiations. The coaches did their due diligence on watching tape. The Jones have done theirs by waiting and allowing the market place to calm down.

I believe this is pretty common for the Cowboys, i.e. Stephen doing the negotiations. I remember reading something similar happening, but I can't remember the player.

About signing Greg Hardy... If the league is going to allow this man to play on an NFL roster, the Cowboys should not restrict him from theirs. That would just be a policy of handicapping yourself.

AP's Hometown Discount: Playing in Dallas for $9.5-$10 Mill per vs $12-$13 Mill is Probably what he means.
I'm gonna say that's about as good as it could get. Now if he took a two year deal for $5-$7 Mill per I'd say trade Minny a conditional 4rth or 5th at best but more like a 6th, otherwise I'd roll with the guys we have and draft somebody in the mid to late rounds. Right now we have 4 backs that can succeed as part of a rotation and defense is still a much greater priority..

Behind THIS O-line I can see DMc putting up about 1,200 yds, I can see Randle putting up 700-900 yds, and the other two cats whichever we keep 500+ if not more, it's all about reps and I'd imagine the bulk would be spread between the 2 lead backs with the 3rd back getting sprinkles.

what if he pretty much sealed a superbowl win for 2015?

If you knew it would, then I think it would be worth it but that kind of guarantee is impossible to get. Too many variables. AD could get injured early, Romo, Dez, Hardy if he were signed, and number of off the field issues could impact it. You just can't tell the future and that's why it would be, IMO, a bad idea.

fair point/s. always a risk for big moves. herschel trade was highly risky too. its been a long time since our boys sniffed the SB. somethings gotta change. maybe them being extremely frugal and conservative in FA is the difference?

AD is one of the most gifted RB's to ever play the game. I'd say the only RB I can say, without a fact was more gifted, was Bo Jackson. I used to watch Barry Sanders a lot, and while he could cut on a dime unlike anyone i've ever seen, I'd say overall Peterson is still a better back for the modern era. AD is actually 29 and will be turning 30 in a few days. He just sat out a year and is fresh.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised, if we gave him the same amount of carries we gave Demarco this year, if he broke the rushing record.

There have been others. Jim Brown was as gifted a player, at any position, as there ever was in the NFL. He could have been great today if he came into the NFL this year. AP is a great, great player but in today's game, you need an OL to be great. AD is very, very good but he is not necessary for us to win a championship IMO.

CC, I think it can be argued Dallas has done pretty well in the 2nd recently. The problem is Dallas doesn't keep the players save Sean Lee. Just from memory recently: Fasano (long time starter in the League after leaving Dallas); Bennett (long time starter in the League since leaving Dallas); Bruce Carter (starter in Dallas and will be a starter in Tampa); and Sean Lee (starter in Dallas when healthy). I think Escobar will end up being a solid starter in the League for years as well (no clue whether that ever happens in Dallas or not though).

Based on just those players, I'd say they can evaluate talent and land starters in the 2nd recently. What they do with the player while on the roster or if they attempt to keep him is another subject.
