76. Stephen McGee
85. Michael Hamlin
89. Brandon Williams
100. Deangelo Smith

I still have alot of respect for him as a football guy and talent evaluator. The guy I am most intrigued by is Brandon Williams. Not quite sure where he fits on a 3-4 but had 11 sacks in a good confrence. Seems more like a 4-3 end. Drafting him and not getting a NT (dont bother me with Savaii) makes me wonder what the future of the 3-4 is here and knowing Wade is on thin ice.

Very simple why we didn't take a NT instead of Williams.

Name the guy who fits as a 3-4 NT that went from where we took him to the end of 7?

B Williams is definitely interesting. He'll play OLB in Wade's 34 (according to the PC after the Draft).

Also, he's only 20 years old right now, and he'll be 21 in June (I think). So, he's a very young player with a ton of upside.

He likely slipped in the Draft (according to Wade/JJ) because he ran a slow 40, but he had an hand injury that didn't let him set up for the dash properly. When he re-ran the 40 at his Pro Day, he ran around a 4.7 area.

Finally, his 10-yard split is very fast. Not as fast as J Williams (who had a faster split than D Ware, I think), but it's very fast.

I think he just needs a couple of years to develop.

Considering that all the evidence, conference calls and press conferences included references to Wade Phillips being the guy who went "to the table" for BW, that would seem to be extremely unlikely.

Wow, that's one of the numbers that I actually like and take into consideration. Didn't know that about him, sounds like he should be able to get off the ball real quick.

Jarron Gilbert is about 15 lbs shy of being a Jay Ratliff clone. Had the Cowboy's stayed put in the 2nd, we could have had him.

This is what Bill Jones had on Brandon and Jason Williams. I posted the full blog in the Daily Zone...

Brandon Williams is a local product (FW South Hills HS) and one intriguing thing about him is that he is very young--won't be 21 until June. He decided to leave Texas Tech early after a huge season in which he led the Big XII with 13 sacks. Teams soured on him when he ran a 4.96 at the combine, but he came back with a 4.78 at his pro day, including a 1.56 10 yard split. Herring says he was sold on Williams when he worked him out here at Valley Ranch last Monday. He was terrific in LB drills, a real question about him since he played DE in college.
9:29am--the selection of Jason Williams is a smart move--doesn't bode well, though, for TCU's Jason Phillips' hopes of being drafted by Dallas. Here's a video I saw a month or so ago on Williams. Western Illinois tailored its entire defense around #6, Williams. Trust me, there's not a whole lot of video out there on Williams. But these are a few of the things I learned about him in studying up for the draft: Jason Williams is extremely fast for a 6-1, 241 pound LB. He ran a 4.49 40 at his Pro Day. To compare, Kevin Burnett, at 6-3, 235, ran a 4.61. His 10 yard split was a CB-like 1.49 (Terence Newman's was 1.56; DeMarcus Ware 1.62. Williams also has a 39 inch vertical (Burnett 36). A 10-9 broad jump is very good for a 241 pounder (Ware was 10-2; Burnett was 10-10). And, Jason Williams benched 225 pounds 26 times (Burnett 20; Ware 27). As for production on the field, granted it was at a lower level of competition but Jason Williams forced 6 fumbles his senior season at Western Illinois. He is expected to fill the biggest void in the Dallas defense after Kevin Burnett signed with San Diego. He has tremendous special teams potential. Good, smart pick.

Then Gil Brandt is an idiot because he just wrote an article trashing Jerry Jones, the Cowbyos and this draft. But accordnig to his rankings, if he was picking for teams based on his board's BPA rankings he would have 4 of Dallas' 12 picks gone by the third round and the fifth guy by the 4th pick in round 5. But he doesn't understand what Dallas was doing in this draft.

Looking at WG's post, B Williams' 10 yard split was equivalent to T Newman's.

I can't believe he's that quick over 10 yards, but regardless, clearly B Williams has a pretty quick first few steps.

We didn't want J Gilbert in Round 2 or 3.

We had flags raised regarding his back (as did several other teams).

EDIT: I was actually hoping we'd draft him, but I didn't know about the back issues at that time. I think Gilbert's back issue is discussed in one of WG's posted articles.

Not sure Gil got over the fact that Jerry put him out to pasture.

Drugs kill dude, stay off of them! Gillbert isn't anywhere close to Ratliff. He lacks leverage, he lacks motor, and he lacks the burst off the line that Ratliff has.

Maybe he develops them, but he damn sure isn't anywhere near Ratliff even when Ratliff came out of college.

Just to add to what WG posted about Jason Williams, Norm said he was talking to an NFL coach during a break, and the coach absolutely loved Williams' potential. He said the player was hard to grade and some teams may have been unsure about him because he played an unusual sort of hybrid position right up on the line. I suspect that's why Wade mentioned at the PC that when Williams was younger, he did play off the line in a more traditional LB set.

But this coach Norm knows really liked him.

Gilbert is much more highly thought of than Ratliff was coming out of college. He was also far more of a playmaker in college than Ratliff ever was.

But the medical staff on the Cowboys had concerns regarding his back - as did several other teams. It was being discussed on The Ticket as well.

What I've heard about Williams is he's athletic and talented but hasn't been as productive on the field.
In other words he sounds like a good combine guy, but ironically wasn't invited to the combine.

He's got potential but is a major boom or bust type player.
