The No. 1 ranked prospect in the ESPNU 150, Jackson Jeffcoat (Plano, Texas/West), will not be making his previously-schedule official visit to Florida this weekend, all but ending the Gators' chances of landing the five-star recruit. However, he is still scheduled to make his Jan. 22 visit to Oklahoma.
The 6-foot-4, 233-pounder has already made official visits to Arizona State (Nov. 6), Texas (Nov. 20) and USC (Nov. 27). Jeffcoat has also made an unofficial visit to Houston in December, where his father coaches the defensive line.
Texas and USC have been thought to be the favorites for several weeks, but the Trojans are now on the outside looking in due to the losses of head coach Pete Carroll and linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. Both will fill their same roles in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks. As important as Carroll was in the recruiting process, losing Norton Jr. was a crushing blow for the Trojans because he and Jeffcoat's dad, Jim, are good friends dating back to their playing days with the Dallas Cowboys from 1988-1993.
