The Football Outsiders DVOA rankings are out for Week 9, and the most interesting thing is that Dallas is ranked 1st in special teams. According to their breakdown, we're:

3rd in punt returns,
3rd in kickoff returns,
5th in FG/XP (the Jets are 1st with Nick Folk. Rue! Rue, I say!),
16th in kickoffs, and
21st in punting.

Thank you Rich Bisaccia and Dwayne Harris! Quite an improvement from 15th last year and 25th the year before.

(We're 12th in offense, 18th in defense and 12th overall, BTW).

Special teams are one of the least parts of the game that people don't really look at. And, they are one of the most important parts of the team.

Meanwhile the Bears gave up a blocked punt and an onside kick yesterday. Don't miss Joe D one bit. They sorely miss Dave Toub.

The loss of Joe D is hard to ....

wait.

Did anyone see his unit last night give up a punt block. Rosario was the culprit on that too, which added to the humor.

They say special teams will win you/lose you 2-4 games during the season....

Props the front-office for assembling this collection of special teams aces.

I literally can't find a post this season complaining about special teams.

Somebody tell Reality to take a snapshot of the CowboysZone site so we can preserve this moment for posterity. It might be a first.

Okay...I will say it. Joe D came in with a TON of hype and did very little. In fact, one would think after the fool we had that came from San Diego with Wade's staff that it could have only improved...it did not. Joe D had one "decent" year, and then sub par, sub par. (And this is the part that will get people upset)...If that damn practice thing had not fallen on him he would have been let go. But Jerruh, businessman Jerruh, couldn't do such a thing with lawsuits going, and a PR nightmare.

Chicago taking him was the best thing that could have happened. No disrespect to Joe D, or Coach Reeves. It's a results business. All I continually recall Joe D doing was complaining about the players he had. Meanwhile, this year our ST coaches seem to work with what they have...oh, and develop them a bit too.

I know I start screaming "HARRIS!!!" on those few occasions when our defense forces a punt.

I will say, even though I like Chris Jones's tackling ability, I think we could use an upgrade at punter. I was at the Detroit game and noticed his hang time wasn't near as impressive as the Detroit's punter. If we're 21st in punting, that means we could use some an upgrade and punters shouldn't be too hard to find. I wouldn't mind Jerry one of those extra 7th round draft picks on a top college punter next year.

Harris is the reason. He is a fearless beast.

If we can't find a way to get him in on bubble screens, scat back, and in space on offense, then they are all idiots.
