Drew Brees Asks Mom To Remove Him From Campaign Ads
A family feud is taking up some of the spotlight this election season.
Television commercials run by Mina Brees, who's running for the state's Third Court of Appeals, have run afoul of her own son, Drew Brees, the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints.
"I'm a football fan, and I have to be. Marty Akins is my brother, and Drew Brees is my son. But there's one difference between him and me, I want to sit on the bench," Mina says in her campaign ad.
KXAN NBC Austin obtained a copy of a letter from Drew Brees' agent demanding Mina Brees remove any reference to the athlete from her commercials.
Sources tell KXAN the two are estranged.
KXAN spoke with Mina Brees Friday night, and she says she's agreed to change the ads. Instead, they'll include Drew's brother, Reed Brees, a former baseball star at Baylor.
