Dallas' defensive tackles combined for a 33.1 PFF run-defense grade last season (30th in the NFL), and the only real addition to the group this offseason was fifth-round pick John Ridgeway.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

    Our interior dline blows chunks.

PFF thinks Diggs is a below average cornerback. That’s all you really need to know to understand their rankings.

They're just ranking rosters, not how well a team is going to do. Hurts is only one player. They bring him up in the X Factor section.

If the team is built on the hope of rookies its more likely to be over hyped/ over rated than actually succeed. But last year proved it does happen sometimes.

We have so many young players that have big roles there is no way that PFF can accurately project our roster.

Mostly due to our weak D-line, according to them.

That Chargers roster does look formidable.
    Maybe they finally break through
    Best division in football though.

The NFL is THE most unpredictable of the pro sports leagues. I put very little stock in almost all preseason predictions. Look at some of the predictions done by some of the big NFL media outlets, then realize this- no one knows.

    2021 Predictions

    • Sports illustrated- picked GB to beat Buffalo in the SB. Neither made the SB.
    • ESPN- predicted the Chiefs would beat the Bucs in a rematch. Didn’t happen.
    • PFF- also predicted a rematch of chiefs and bucs but had the Bucs repeating.
    • CBS Sports- predicted the Bills would beat the Bucs or the Pack.
    2020 Predictions
    • Sports Illustrated- picked the Ravens to beat the Saints in SB LV. (The Bucs beat the chiefs)
    • ESPN- picked the chiefs to beat the Cowboys! (Sadly, we didn’t make the playoffs)
    • PFF- picked the chiefs to beat the saints.
    • CBS Sports- their writers did not have a consensus but picked either the ravens, colts, chiefs or Cowboys to beat either the pack, ravens, Seahawks, Cowboys, or chiefs.
Simple truth here: NO ONE KNOWS.

The talent on this team has long been overvalued by the fans and some of the media. That pleases management because the crux of the criticism falls on the coaching and management is too egotistical to realize that actually reflects more on them than the talent.

One of the most difficult things for a lot of fans is objectivity about their team. Somehow, laying it all on the coaches seems justified to them and they fault the coaches for everything, mistakes on the field, penalties, turnovers, play calling when the execution fails and lack of being ready to play in their first playoff game.

The coaching staff caught the blame for the 14 penalties even though they had already benched the leading perp for a couple of games to try and fix that to no avail. Did the coaches pick Williams and McGovern? Did they pick and decide to stay with Gregory, a player laughing on the field while crippling his team? Think any coach liked seeing that? And some of you were lamenting them losing Gregory.

Do you think any coach on this team didn't harp all week that the team that was coming to town was actually happy about their draw? They were coming to kick their butts and take their lunch money and they start the game like that.

Whatever talent this team has is countered by their pampered treatment, excuse making and sales pitches elevating their stature to please the culture killers' egos. The management morons even do that leading into contract negotiations.

Team talent is all about the weakest link in the chain. While some were crowing about the best OL in the game, where was that DL? In the bottom 8, that's not talent. Skill positions does not represent talent. The entire team, including the backups, because if you haven't noticed they play a lot for this team. If there is any team in need of depth it is one that overpays their starters.

The Cowboys lack talent at the very top because he does not allow the HC to set the culture and tone and he wants to be the face of the team to please his needy and overinflated ego. Talent doesn't answer to the coaching staff on this team and the coaches probably do not even have the ultimate say in who gets playing time.

Talent? Management lucked into their last two starting QB's and the best player on the team wouldn't even have been there if not for CAR and DEN picks.

Roster? We have Parsons and he’s a game changer. It’s hard to quantify that talent and what it adds to a roster.

Well said CC. Many fans wear what I call “fan glasses”. Everything they see is rosy and is based on best-case scenarios. There is little recognition that 31 other teams are also adding talent and new coaching staffs, etc. There’s nothing wrong with fans having this rosy outlook. That’s what fans do. Fans are inherently “believers”.

But what is bad for our favorite team is our GM thinks and does his job like a fan. Every season he believes with all his billionaire heart in the best of all scenarios and is the genuinely shocked that it doesn’t work out. For the 26th straight year. He over-values the talent he drafts (although many are talented) and vastly underrates the importance of coaching and culture to winning.

And the difference he made for the DC and D. Had they picked Horn or Surtain as they had planned, I don't think this team even wins the East.

The comparisons to Lawrence Taylor or Derrick Thomas are premature except for one item. Parsons had the same impact on his D and team because he was the player of concern from the OC and QB. He is as valuable to the Cowboys as Donald is to the Rams and there are not many of those guys.

I can take PFF or leave it. I won't argue too much with their ratings because it is pointless. Save this article and come back to it at the end of the season.

I think the Eagles do have a really good roster, but it all still depends on Hurts.

I can't say I disagree with where they have the Cowboys. The Cowboys have too many question marks. If the LG is a good player... If the DTs take a step forward... If CeeDee can be the #1 WR... If Tyron can stay healthy... If Dak gives us a full season of quality play... If the Cowboys can repeat their turnover performance... If Fowler and Williams can replace the pressure Gregory brought... If Steele holds up against the better DEs... If Biadasz improves...

I can see the Cowboys finishing the season at 9-8 or even 8-9.

One thing I noticed about the ratings, I think PFF is giving the some rookies a lot more credit than they deserve by using their college grades. Most rookie 1st round picks are going to struggle or be non-factors.

Also, can someone explain to me why the Saints are considered such a great team this year? They have a new HC and look who is their QB.

Bullet, there is a word that usually accompanies discussions about talent, potential. It is interesting to me that that word is usually used as a precursor comment or in the past tense when potential was not realized.

The other problem with this team is the owner's ego because he thinks like some of the fans, a player automatically becomes a better player when he becomes a Cowboy. Most could care less what uniform they're wearing as long as the checks are clearing. I don't blame them, pay me and I play for you long time.

The word “potential” always harkens back memories of former Texas Longhorn HC Darrell Royal and his apt definition of potential- “Potential just means you ain’t done it yet”.
