I can only speak for myself but it’s hard for me to be a fan of a player that I feel has wasted potential. I’ll preface this by saying Zeke is a great player, but I feel he should have been much better. IMO, he relied too much on his natural ability early in his career instead of working to become the best player he could be.
Why do I say he wasted potential? Because he was tremendous his rookie year and then became noticeably slower his 2nd season all but losing his big play ability save for a screen pass with blockers out in front. In the All or Nothing series that followed the Cowboys the 2017 season, Zeke seemed to come into the facility looking as if he needed to still sleep off a hard night of partying. During this time the “Zeke is fat” jokes started because, despite the debates, Zeke was slower than he was his rookie year. (link to website that tracked player speed in 2016 and 2017 provided below).
Kobe Bryant once said he wanted to be thought of as a talented overachiever. He worked as though he had no talent at all. If Zeke had anywhere near that level of work ethic, I can only imagine how great the dude could have been. My guess is he would be in the GOAT discussion but instead he is asking for respect to be put on his name.
As mentioned above here is a link to a database of player speed on 2016 and 2017. The NFL allowed the person access to the data for those 2 seasons to run an analysis (unrelated to Zeke) and he provided the raw data. When you look at Zeke’s rookie year you can see he is well above league average but comes back to field in 2017. While Zeke is still great, he was nowhere near what he was his rookie year. We needed that Zeke for more than one season and we didn’t get it.

Couple that with the fact when it was pretty apparent his speed had declined, you had the Zeke fanboys who had to be his white knight and argue about it constantly which didn’t do Zeke any favors.
