.

I stayed at that Red Roof in in 2002. It's nice, it's close enough to walk and much cheaper than the big hotels on the River Walk.

It's a well-kept secret, I guess.

Corpus is 2 hrs drive from downtown....for those of u who want to squeeze a trip to the beach in on your visit. If you like to fish........Lake Travis, Canyon Lake, Braunig Lake, Medina Lake, and Calaveras Lake are all around San Antonio.

Forget tubing, as the total lack of rain has caused most of our major rivers to dry up worse than the Cowboys in December.

San Antonio is a great city. Older than most cities. Romantic. History filled and the women are out of this world attractive.

Safety:

The Alamodome is near downtown. If you must walk to and from the A-Dome, be sure you are with a friend and by friend I don't mean some friendly gal who offers to keep you company. However, practices will be in the day, so it's no big deal. Parking will cost $10, I hear.

Stay away from the east side of town.
Stay away from the West side of town (though) that side does have some really good Tex-Mex food and has numerous cultural hot spots.

Food:
For ambiance, go to the River Walk.
For good food, eat AWAY from the tourist-infested River Walk.
And as long as you are in the epicenter of great Mexican food, for pete's sake, eat it and don't go looking for burgers which you can get at home.

Imbibing:

Here is a bona-fide treat: The frozen sangria at Rosario's on South Alamo Street. The house is packed with beautiful women and it's loud and festive and very hip.
Also, the margaritas at Tomatillos on Broadway near Central Market, that area.
For the best and coldest schooner of beer, find it at Pico de Gallo, again on South Alamo Street. And the food there is top-notch Mexican.

Where to meet nice gals:
For you lonely guys wanting a chance to meet a lonely and attractive woman, go to Raffles club. Mama don't have to know where you been to in San Antonio.

history:
blah, blah, blah.
Oh, the Alamo DOES HAVE A BASEMENT. Please believe me.
once, after I got kicked out of the Emily Morgan hotel bar, I looked across the street to the north wall of the Alamo compound and DANG, I saw some guy unloading freight into an elevator that went below ground. That means the Alamo has a basement.

Nearby areas:
austin is an hour away.
Gruene is a half-hour away, home to the famous Gruene dance hall. It has lots of Country, folk and Rock acts.

And I would walk to an from the A-Dome. practices are in the day. Just don't forgit your hat or your brains will be more fried than Martellus Bennett's.

the Red Roof Inn is a half-mile away. It is modern, clean and inexpensive. Tell them gimmetheball! sent you and you'll get a blank look.

Just trying to hep.

You can go back to your menial jobs now.

Boudro's on the riverwalk is one of the best restaurants i ahve eaten at. Pricey for sure but to say the food there is bad is absurd.

It really is a great city...and I work in NYC. :)

Paesano's is better. The ladies love La Focaccia.

Sports Bar
Hooters - Riverwalk, I-35 in Selma, Wurzbach & Fredericksburg
Buffalo Wild Wings - Live Oak, 1604 & 281, DeZavala Rd.
Bikini Sports Bar - Fredricksburg Rd
Wings to Go - Bandera and 1604 in the Silverado Theatre shopping center

I would think that the majority of the people here would prefer Fatso's

Hamburger
Chris Madrid's - Blanco near Hildebrand
Fatty's Burgers - Downtown
Big's - 1604 West just past Blanco
Texas Hamburger Company - Huebner
Fuddruckers - Broadway & 410, I-10 & Wurzbach

Good choices especially the first one but I would throw in Chester's as well. Great stuff.

Mexican
Pico de Gallo - Commerce St. and I-35
Salsalito's - Nacogdoches (get the spinach and chicken enchiladas, they rock)
Don Pedro - SW Military Drive
Alamo Cafe - 281 just north of Bitters

Not bad but La Fogata is better than those and if you're looking for maragritas then Chacha's is second to none. Chachas mind you NOT chachos. If youre looking for cheap greasy and pretty damn good then Tink-a-Taco is great too.

BBQ
Rudy's - I-10 West near Boerne, I-35 in Selma
Bill Miller's - just outside the dome (the Sweet Tea and Pecan Pie are great)

Bill Miller's is disgusting. Sure the tea is loaded with sugar but the meat is low grade. Being cheap is all it has going for it.

Rudy's ribs are really good as is their smoked turkey. Their brisket and sausage is not good at all.

You have to put The County Line in this disussion and the Smokehouse off Rigby is damn fine food too.

Sorry, I wouldn't eat Spaghetti Warehouse if you paid me, nor would I even step foot inside Paesano's ever again. When the chicken marsala tastes identical to the veal picatta, you've lost me as a customer.

Italian:

Aldo's at Wurzbach and Fredrickburgh.

Aldino's, my place, at 1604 and Blanco

Little Italy, West Ave and Blanco, behind the Firestone.

Milano's, Wurzback Parkway and Lockhill Selma

Mexican

Aldaco's
Hacienda Del Los Barrios
Mirasol, ain't cheap, but damn good
Paloma Blanco

BBQ

The Smokehouse. Find it, it's worth it.

Nouveau American

Huisache Grill, San Antonio St., in New Braunfels. Their flan will make you slap your mama. Excellent spinach salad, get it with the gorgonzola dressing. Their wine menu is priced at retail.
