Crabtree seeking top 3 money


Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports one league source said the hold up with first-round negotiations -- only four of 32 had signed by Monday morning -- was San Francisco's Michael Crabtree. The receiver from Texas Tech was a No. 10 overall draft pick but he is seeking top 3 money.

If Crabtree gets top 3 money at No. 10, then the picks around him -- Knowhson Moreno was selected at No. 12 overall -- would negotiate their contracts accordingly.

Why can't these players be happy with 5 or 6 mill a year and a 13 mil signing bonus???? I know it may be a little tough to buy groceries and stuff, but hey....


The NFL needs to put a REAL cap on rookie contracts.

My, how life would be so much simpler as far as getting these guys signed and into training camp. Not to mention how ludicrous it is to pay that much to an unproven commodity. Let the bust tail and ern that 1st huge contract. The vets would celebrate it as well.

I agree there needs to be a cap on rookies. Having said that under the current rules there is not and if Crabtree want to hold out for a better deal then more power to him. Only issues I tend to have with players are with those already under contract who try and holdout. Once you sign the contract I do expect the player to honor that contract.

Seems like every year there is at least one player who is selected below where the "experts" said he would and then demands that he gets paid what he would if he were taken higher.

As I recall, Brady Quinn did the same thing.

I couldn't agree more! The system is seriously flawed when a QB like Stafford is making more money and the likes of Brady, McNabb and P. Manning.
