This was posted at another board and I will not vouch for its autheticity.
But it is interesting.
But it is interesting.
Spoke to a Cowboys player today (I'd say who it was but it would be a breach of confidence) about several things related to the Cowboys, and learned some fascinating information regarding T.O..
Apparently that T.O./Witten fight you all read about was actually between T.O. and Carpenter. At one point, Jason Witten came in to break it up, restraining T.O., and somehow it was written as T.O. and Witten duking it out. Apparently, T.O. and Carpenter have been at each other's throats since Carp's rookie year when T.O. and a couple of his buddies pulled a rookie hazing prank on him. Carp got really angry over it and T.O. told him something to the effect of him having a big mouth for a rookie. T.O. has ranted to those who would listen on more than one occasion about Carp being a "privileged punk" because his father played in the NFL and he had everything handed to him on a silver platter.
So when the Werder article came out, T.O. naturally suspected it was Carpenter (T.O. suspected as far back as 2006 that Carpenter was leaking things to the media about him). He went over to confront him about it and they got into a skirmish.
The player I spoke to said that Romo and Witten are pretty much indifferent towards T.O.. Romo in particular does not care at all about any of the T.O. media stuff (as you can imagine, he has much bigger things to worry about) and he likes the guy well enough. They've always been respectful of each other and joke around with one another quite a bit. On the other hand, Romo wouldn't lose sleep if T.O. were released. He's just not the kind of guy who really gets too passionate about things like that.
Witten is more sensitive to the feelings of others (i.e. Carpenter) regarding T.O. than Romo, but he's never had a problem with T.O. personally. He understands why some might, but he respects him as a player and T.O. has never said or done anything to him. He was surprised and upset over the Werder article, and started ranting about how it was "tabloid ********" for a good 10 minutes when this player asked him about it.
He said this locker room is actually really quiet most of the time...almost to the point of being awkward. He thinks it's hilarious that people on the outside think it's some sort of war zone because he believes the problem is players aren't aggressive enough. This is the most laid back football locker room this player has ever been a part of.
On the other hand, T.O. confronting Carpenter made people really uncomfortable because it was so out of character for the locker room. A lot of people had an "oh please tell me he's not going to..." expression on their face when he did it. Of course, many of these same guys had no problem ranting about "cowards" to the media.
Oh, and BTW, it was Owens who first called him "Barbie Carpenter," for those who aren't aware. That gives you an idea of the depth of their conflict.
