I don't believe Dak's new contract will be agreed by both parties to being around $40 mil/season. It very likely will be less, probably between $35 - $37 / year.

"After months of back-and-forth that included the Cowboys submitting multiple offers to Prescott, including one that tap danced around the $35 million per year mark -- sources tell CBS Sports -- the two sides are now engaged in driven discussions that could see the two-time Pro Bowler finally agree to terms before mid-March rolls around." - Patrik Walker/CBS Sportswriter

So, Whitlock is likely off his rocker once again scaring everyone with his gibberish stating Dak is dead-set on demanding no less than $40 million/year.

Jason Whitlock.....yuck. Piece of crap writer and worse human being.

Disagree, Whitlock is one of the few who don't fear the repercussions of being critical of the Annointed one. He is insulated from the usual accusations of having an agenda and just tells it like it is.

He doesnt have to overcompensate like Chris Collingsworth and lie about things like Dako buying his deceased mother a new house.......after she passed. And doesn't have to pull a Booger McFarland and embellish Daks input on every play the offense makes to bolster how he is viewed either.

He may have a different opinion on Rayne Dakotas value than you do but straying off the designated and expected line of thought doesn't make him a piece of crap.

I admire free thinkers like Jason.

The fool needs a dose of reality to get him off his high horse. We don't need him to make it 3 bad contracts.

It may be time to simply walk away from the table, and tell him and his agent that they're getting the tag.

At least for this year, and possibly next year as well, provided we don't find ourselves a better option.

We'll pay him $27 million this year under a non-exclusive franchise tag. If someone makes an offer we don't want to match? We'll take their next two 1st round picks and then we can look at the biggest free agent QB market in league history. And in the short term, there are plenty of 'patches' to sign to man the helm for a while as well.

If we keep him under another tag again in 2021? It would cost us $38 million.

That adds up to two years, $65 million. Less than the $33 million a year he reportedly "turned down".

He can deal with that or sit at home and watch his career prospects crumble as time waits for no one.

Bottomline about Dak’s contract:

If Dak leads us to win 1-2 SBs in the next 5 years it will be worth paying him anything <40 mill/year

if he does not help us win any SBs in the next 5 years he won’t be worth even 30 mill/year

overall I would tag him this year and allow him to show what ki NY d if a ‘leader’ he is by missing most of the off season

If we sign Dak before the new contract we’ll still be ok considering every qb after the cap goes up will be 38+ not to mention Mahomes will reset the market with 45+. Daks contract will actually be good by then to be honest.
That's a bad way of doing business. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what you're saying is Pay Dak elite QB money, because the cap will go up? That would set a bad precedent in the future for other Cowboy players who are looking for elite money even though their talent might not warrant it

Dak was hated at $465k per year. Regardless of how much or little his contract is, he will still be hated. Go elsewhere, Dak.

The moment a new Dak thread is started you hear howling and a full moon appears at the Cowboyszone.
