He could, and Jerry could do that back then. No salary cap to worry about. If they cut Folk, and brought in a new K, it has salary cap implications. Obviously, the haven't tried using Buehler for a reason.

I thought they should have let him try a FG.
Teams do this all the time - hell, the Cowboys have done it, notably Vandershank.

Salary cap implication < losing games because kicker blows goats.

Though you are of course correct to point it out - you can't always just cut someone who blew a play, because there's more to it than just cleaning out his locker...

I read recently that we might bring in Jason Elam for a look.

DeCamilis and Wade have coached him previously.

No matter how old he is, he is better than Folk is today.

He will make the 24 yarders probably.

Hate to give up on Folk entirely though.

About the Laufenberg interview....let's be real here....we don't have a true HC on this team....we have a DC that has NOTHING to do with the offense, and we have an OC that has NOTHING to do with the defense....JG already has the title of head coach anyway. Both of them do.

What would change should be become the HC? I don't think anything really would.

He would once again just be in charge of the offense and whoever the DC is would be in charge of the defense.....

He s a true OC in the league...albeit in OJT....

I bet you dont have a problem with the Steelers having the exact same set up either do you? Tomlin does nothing on offense or defense. He just makes a few mad faces and some postgame comments, and people thinks he's a real HC.

Out set up is not that different from many teams where the HC either functions as the OC or DC.

Again, not unlike alot of etams where the HC calls plays.

Shanahan wants to coach the Cowboys

That's what Fox sleuth Jay Glazer is reporting. He just said it on the pre-game.

According to Glazer, Mike Shanahan has the Commanders job if he wants it. He is out assembling a staff and getting ready to return to NFL sidelines.

"...However, I'm hearing (Shanahan) wants the Dallas job and that's why (Commanders owner Dan) Snyder is acting so swiftly. Although I don't think Dallas has any interest in him."

Report: Snyder offered job to Shanahan in offseason

Posted by Mike Florio on December 20, 2009 12:29 PM ET

As the momentum continues to build between the Commanders and Mike Shanahan, Jay Glazer of FOX reports that owner Daniel Snyder initially offered the job to Shanahan during the 2009 offseason.

In response, Shanahan told Snyder that he needs to give coach Jim Zorn more than one year on the job.

The news meshes with rumors that have been circulating for months regarding offseason meetings and communications between Snyder and Shanahan, and regarding the belief that the Commanders tried to get quarterback Jay Cutler from the Broncos in anticipation that Shanahan would be the head coach.

And who knows? Maybe Shanahan would have decided to take the offer for 2009 if Cutler was going to be the guy.

Glazer also reports that, at the league meetings in March, Snyder asked former Broncos safety John Lynch to share everything he knows about Shanahan -- in the presence of Zorn.

All that said, Glazer says that Shanahan's top choice is the Cowboys. If so, it looks like Shanahan possibly has been using the Commanders in order to get Dallas owner Jerry Jones to bite.

Jimmy has told that story about the kicker several times. Even Emmitt Smith has said many times that all the players knew they would be cut if they didn't perform.
