Fox Sports: Bunkley Stinks, Ferguson Dominant

Eagles' Bunkley is most disappointing rookie

New York Giants I love the six-lineman formation the Giants have rolled out. I consider Jim Finn the NFL's best blocking fullback right now, and the combination of Finn and Rich Seubert as a tight end makes for a great running scheme. Unfortunately, the loss of left tackle Luke Petitgout will make the Giants less effective running the ball.

Philadelphia My choice for most disappointing rookie is first-round defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley. He was a workout warrior at the combine, and the Eagles don't exactly have a great history drafting workout warriors to bolster their defense (see Mamula, Mike). Bunkley doesn't get many snaps in the defensive line rotation, and when he plays he gets pushed around too easily. Second-round offensive tackle Winston Justice hasn't even set foot on the field yet this year. It's not shaping up to be a very good draft for the Eagles.

Dallas Nose tackle Jason Ferguson is amazing. Every Cowboys game I watch, I come away thinking he dominated the center across the line of scrimmage from him. He completely changes the opposing offense's plan of attack on running plays because guards who might otherwise pull or block a linebacker are forced to help the center with Ferguson.

Washington Outside linebacker Marcus Washington is dropping into coverage more and blitzing less, and that doesn't make much sense to me. Washington was a good fit in Gregg Williams' defense because he's so relentless when he rushes the passer. Now they're asking him to stop doing what he's best at and start doing what he's worst at.

Fergy is earning his pay.....

Glad to see he's getting some love. Hope he can stay healthy and keep it up for another 2-3 years.

Kinda surprised he didn't say Carpenter was the most disappointing rookie.

Good to see 8 games is enough to judge a draft...ours must be lights out too then?

As far as Justice goes, isn't he the future guy for Thomas?

no argument here...

i do think that parcells is going to have to find some way to rest him so he doesn't wear down so much in the second half of the season.

our lack of depth at that position is a bit scary, IMHO.

Actually I understand Ratliff is get a lot of playing time at that position. Haven't seen anything regarding the player (I think his name is Parker) we picked up off somebody's PS; Parker? has been inactive since we got him. Of course release he's got to learn our system but it could also mean that Ratliff is doing a good job.

way too early to call Bunkley a bust. I still think he'll be good in time, it takes a while for a d-lineman to develop. Look at Tommie Harris, decent as a rookie but now he tears teams up. Ferguson is definitely doing a great job against the run this year.

Ferguson is one of the BIGGEST reasons we're so good against the run.

And to think people were calling him a wasted free agent signing last season. ;)

I've always said Ferguson was my favorite defensive player just for the fact that he always does he job and does a damn good job of it.

As for Winston Justice. I heard so many people saying we should have drafted him and I didn't think he will pan out in the league. The only way I see him actually playing in this league is because of injury. I just don't think he has what it takes.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I did not notice him being this dominant last year. He has been absolutely outstanding this year.

What? The Eagles had an outstanding draft. Just look at the draft grades. They are never wrong.

A big part of that is that he's got better talent on either side. Ellis wasn't a 3-4 DE, Coleman is just a guy. Canty and Spears are coming into their own as run defenders.

you know...

you could say some of the same things about our draft of last year. most of our higher picks haven't contributed all that heavily this year, either.

...however, it is waaaaaaaayyyyy too early to starting using the "b" word

there were people all over this board clamoring for winston justice last april...

Actually, Ferguson, Canty, and Spears our building a Wall for defenders to run through, and if we could just blitz more using Ayodele and James, our sack totals could be out the roof.

He was playing with an injury last year. He is 100% healthy this year.
