What is the timing on that? There are a bunch of guys like Howard, Woodson on and on vastly overpaid that are back in same boat......

Will Johnny A get tagged by Jets?

Adam V, Vanderjack I believe are up......

Feb. 23 is the last date a team can name a franchise or transition player

The tag for CB's this offseason will be a lot lower than last year. Woodson's tag last year cost around 10.5 Million this year I think it's projected around 5.7 million...

I heard those numbers on ESPN a few weeks back...

Not sure how that makes any sense?

Franchise tag is based on average contract of top 3-5 players at position.

Price tag on CB's hasn't gone down any lately.

they could go down if the top salaries have gone down...woodson not having one brings that average down

deion's is gone
ty law's is lower

i cant really think of any premier corners that are getting huge money...around 10 mil...let alone 5 of them

i could be wrong of course

Woodson had the highest cap number for cornerbacks because he was franchised last year at $10.537 million. But players who are tagged are not included in the calculation for the next year's tender amounts, so he's not one of the top five that are averaged. The franchise tender for cornerbacks should be about $6.37 million this season.

Interesting.

Seems like salaries have gone nothing but up and up.

Thought we weren't in the CB FA market in 2004 cuz of insane prices but forced to step in last year.

CB's are 40% off this year!!!

Hip, hip, hooray.

The averages keep going up, but a lot of the highest-paid guys got new deals last year (Samari Rolle, Ty Law, Patrick Surtain, etc.), so their cap numbers were pretty low in 2005. And the Vikings have been giving their free agent signings roster bonuses instead of signing bonuses. So when they signed Antoine Winfield in 2004, his cap number that season was $12.5 million, but it dropped to $6.25 million this year. That helps lower the average of the top five by quite a bit. (The Vikings again had the non-franchised cornerback with the highest cap number in 2005, Fred Smoot at $9.1 million.)

Also, Charles Woodson's franchise tender in 2005 was higher than the normal amount (which was $8.816 million last year) because it had to be 120 percent of his cap number in the previous season.

Curious what big time free safety and stud linebackers will be available.
