Gifford was a decent guy, but I never cared much for color commentary. In my mind there's Pat Summerall, Al Michaels, and then everybody else, then Collinsworth, then Gruden, then Madden.

I heard this news yesterday and I have to confess that I was a little down. Like many of you, I grew up listening to stories of Gifford and actually listening to him broadcast. I will also say that Gifford was a big fan of Tom Landry when a lot of people really weren't, in the early days. Gifford had his personal issues and they were publicized at the time but I will always appreciate Gifford for the reasons I've said above.
