Its an awesome play all the way around.

Fred saved Martin on that block, Martin pushes Dunbar out into his route (so that helps as well), and then Witten sealed it off by making the block he did and directing Dunbar that direction.

That whole blocking example impressed me. It's easy to forget (except on sacks of course) just how much is going on in the trenches during plays. I like how our offensive line is not keyed in on certain blockers the whole time.

While most NFL offenses are not straight man-across-from-you battles, most linemen tend to lock on one blocker (may be different play-to-play) after the play evolves and stick with them as their only assignment. In years past, our linemen were bad when they had no one to block, so rather than guarding the gaps, they shifted to help a blocker to the side of them, which made us susceptible to stunts and delayed blitzes by linebackers.

Its clear from that image that Frederick gives us that foundation in the middle that allows our guards to protect their area, not just key in on a blocker because they know if they lose the block to the side, there is help waiting. It also gives our tackles the ability to push their man outside and help form a pocket, which is what most teams do, but we have the interior side protected so the tackles can focus more on protecting outside high routes by the pass rushers.

On a side note, that #51 looked like he wanted no part of Tyron :) You could argue he was containing Romo, but it's not like Romo's a run threat and he doesn't roll out of the pocket like he used to regularly.

It's the play where Witten signals Dunbar to run behind him because he'll seal off the blocks.

Seriously, one of the most dominating things I've seen from this team in a while. Witten has so much on the field control and we had so much of an edge at that point that he had the time to direct traffic. Amazing.

Really shows how well these guys are playing together. Lot of movement on the right side of the line with stunts, etc . Our guys just dealt with it and looked VERY smooth the entire time. Even further Romo is in on them understanding each other and the game is really slowing down for that entire unit, Romo included.

He saved Martin's shorts. Martin should have passed the DT to Free and then come back inside. He is still used to keeping an edge as opposed to handling the interior.

It was a great pickup by Fred but I still don't like seeing Martin screw up another stunt back inside of him as he overpursues outside.

Martin will correct that very soon. He doesn't seem like the type to repeat mistakes often.

Anyone remember roughly when this play occurred? I have the game downloaded and want to see Witten direct traffic again. That was amazing to see live.

That gif is from itsaboat's post earlier in the week. It's from Play 7 in his video.

I've watched this probably 50 times. And it still brings me unbridled joy.

Yes, I get more joy from this than watching a big catch or run. It's perfection by Fred.

Another interesting thing on this play was hold Dunbar sold that he was blocking then stayed really tight to the OL when coming across the line before going out into his route.

Notice how Martin pushes Dunbar into his route.

Nice pickup of that detail.

Shows we have some thinkers on our line, besides just brute strength. Martin clearly meaning. Get on out of here, we will handle it from here on....
