3. Vontae Davis, Indianapolis Colts
4. Sam Shields, Green Bay Packers (UPDATE: Re-signed with Packers.)
5. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Denver Broncos
6. Antonio Cromartie, New York Jets.
7. Walter Thurmond, Seattle Seahawks (UPDATE: Signed with Giants.)
8. Captain Munnerlyn, Carolina Panthers
9. Tarell Brown, CB, San Francisco 49ers

I'll be surprised if the Colts don't shell out the money to keep the 25-year-old Davis. With the fourth-most cap room in the league, Indy's leaky pass defense can't afford to lose its most talented press corner. ... Shields offers outstanding speed and should thrive on the open market. ... Rodgers-Cromartie pondered retirement during Super Bowl Week, but he's coming off his best campaign in years (finishing as the NFL's fourth-ranked corner, per Pro Football Focus) and reportedly remains a "top priority" for Denver's front office.

After thriving as Seattle's nickel back, Thurmond is primed for a starting job. How about Jacksonville's Gus Bradley swooping in for his former pupil. ... Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman told us that "cap-strapped" Carolina might be limited to offering Munnerlyn a one-year deal, which makes the undersized playmaker a strong candidate to bolt. ... Brown is a possibility to stick with the 49ers, who drafted him in 2007 and saw the corner start 42 games over the past three seasons.

Go to spotrac.com and click on free agents and then change the year to 2015 and the position to cb to see all of this year's FAs.

Chris Harris Jr. Is IMO the #1 FA CB for this spring

I do not want to spend big money on a CB especially with our current scheme.

I'd go after Chris Culliver or Perrish Cox (both 49ers) and have them compete with Sterling Moore and Morris Claiborne, assuming we don't trade Claiborne.

I like Culliver's toughness, size, age but Cox can double as a return man.

Like your thinking, Culliver would be my target as well.

Culliver and Cox are both press man corners and get alot of help ffrom that SF pass rush and LBs.

This is a bad year for free agent CBs. Best thing to do may be to draft 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Chris Harris Jr. Is the best available this year.

Don't dislike Harris, but don't agree that he is the de facto best CB available.

I think Culliver's physicality, demeanor, and size translates well into our scheme.

I think you lost to how this scheme is suppose to be ran. This is a main zone coverage scheme. Culliver is a press man corner. Also SF had a much better pads rush and safety play then we do. That helps. That would make Carr a pro bowler.

Why don't you think Culliver can play zone? Coming out of college most scouts seemed to think he could be successful at either.

I dont kniw. That's the thing. I said what he is. I d I n't want ti give a press man corner big money to see if he can play zone.
That's like signing Carr to play in a 34 press man and then making him try and play a 43 zone. We saw what happened there.

This free agent CB market is slim. A press man scheme team will go after him too and I don't want to get in a price war over the guy.

This is the offseason for marinelli to be able to get the Corners that can play his defense. He has never had that before.

Cover 2 corners are (or should be) pressers. Many teams refer to Cover 2 CB's as "Force Corners". Ideally, you want them to jam the WR and reroute them inside. Also, the Cover 2 is designed to force the ball underneath so the CB's are expected to come up and tackle.

I think Culliver is tailor made for this.

Ok but Culliver stays with his man. He doesn't ever play under and plays zone. He's a true man cover corner.

I don't think Culliver would be good in zone. Sitting back and reading the offense and staying in 1 zone

Looks like Culliver may have torn his ACL again today vs oakland. If that's the case. He's done for next year

He played in a zone scheme at South Carolina.

Just saw this. Culliver is saying it's not the ACL and he'll be okay.

Obviously, if it is an ACL tear, especially this late in the season, he'd no longer be a high priority in free agency.
