Free agent QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick and Robert Griffin III in limbo as Broncos eye Colin Kaepernick

...“Robert Griffin III won’t be in a position to know what’s next for [him] until the Kaepernick situation is resolved,” Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio wrote earlier this week. “With Kaepernick in play both in Cleveland and Denver, Griffin’s opportunities won’t crystallize until Kaepernick is cleared off the San Francisco roster.”

Florio said Fitzpatrick is in a similar situation.

“The logjam continues to be Colin Kaepernick,” Florio wrote Thursday. “Until his situation is resolved in San Francisco, the other dominoes likely aren’t falling. And Fitzpatrick is one of the biggest dominoes left.”

The two quarterbacks could be waiting for a few more weeks, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently reported that the 49ers are not expected to trade Kaepernick before April 1.

Until Kaepernick is traded—or known for sure to be staying in San Francisco—expect little movement on the Fitzpatrick and RGIII fronts.

For all parties involved, the waiting game will continue.

I feel that last game with the Jets really hurt Fitzpatrick. Reminded the league of what Fitzy is, a stopgap at QB who won't win you many important games.

It's funny how people thought rg3 was going to play here in Dallas. Not a chance! The NFL knows he's washed up. At best he should be a teams 2nd or 3rd qb. I'm wondering if he will even start for an nfl team next year, and remain the starter for the entire season?

Fitz probably wants too much money for age/expectations.

RGIII spent a year on the bench so there's no real tape or film of anything recent, so nobody is going to bring him in immediately to start, and he probably wants assurances he'll compete for a starting job, and with good reason.

What he needs to do is go where the best backup money is with the weakest starting QB, or a place with a starting QB on a soon-expiring contract. Work out hard from now until OTAs and then tear it up in camp and in the preseason. Force them to play you.

Still think he would be an excellent backup here in Dallas. The only player that would be a better "ready" backup for a traditional pro style offense is Fitzgerald, but that's admitting that I haven't seen Griffin throw at all in practice, pregame, or otherwise from this entire past season. Moose Johnston has, and says that he still has the best footwork and throws the best ball of any of the guys that were on Washington's roster.
