No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. This is a philosophy that doesn't only apply to coaching but all walks of life. Dabble a little here, then dabble a little there, and then some more over here. Yes, you gain experience in several different facets of a company (or in this case, offensive line position) but become master of nothing. It's fine if you've got a long period of time, but there is so little time that the coaching staff gets to work with their team anymore, the practice sessions are gold. Why waste one (or more) focusing on something that is not that lineman's natural position? Wouldn't that time be better served focusing on the position you're going to be playing?
And think about it -- we've seen this with team before. Garrett had play calling duties pulled from him so he could better focus on his position as head coach. Why? Because he was spread too thin. Instead of being the best head coach he could be, his additional duties as play caller made his game management suffer. Why wouldn't the same apply to Doug Free? Now you've got him focusing on two different positions, rather than the one he should be focusing on. Spreading too thin. It doesn't make him more flexible. It makes him less of a RT than he could be because he has missed valuable practice time at the position and now has to spend additional energy focusing on duties at RG. You dig?
