From 1990-1998 The Cowboys went 11-6 without Troy Aikman

Yes I know most of those years we had great teams. But we also ran basically the same system and wasn't this year's team supposed to be ready to contend for a Super Bowl.?

The Dallas Cowboys have now lost 8 of the last 9 without Tony Romo. With the only victory by Steven McGee in week 17 of the 2012 season in a totally meaningless game where Philadelphia sat most of its starters.

I think Tony Romo needs to be considered one of the greatest players the Cowboys have ever had in light of all the recent failures in his absence. The numbers sure seem to back it up.

OR (1) This team isn't nearly as well coached as it was 1990-1998 (2) the overall depth and quality of the roster isn't on par with 1990-1998.

The Cowboys also had quality Back Ups back then.

Bernie Kosar, Steve Berlien (I know I spelled this wrong most likely), and Jason Garrett

That's a far cry from Brandon Weeden and what Matt Cassel has been able to do thus far.

I would agree with this to some degree.

I don't think this team was particularly well coached from 1994-1998. They got by mostly on supreme talent at the right positions.

The depth for sure though, at least from 1991-1995 anyway.

After that probably not nearly as much due to FA. I mean this team did think Shante Carver was a good addition during that time if I recall correctly.

Much of that was in the Gailey regime I believe. That was one thing I did like about Gailey, he could gameplan around a backup QB and had a flexible scheme that was not nearly as dependent.

The last time this team had a quality backup was Romo backing up Bledsoe. Vinny is still better today at 64 than anyone who has sat behind Romo.

Did you intentionally cherry pick years between eras? Or did you forget Kitna went 5-3 when Romo went down a few years ago?

Kitna was a quality back-up we actually traded for.

I agree Romo is one of the best Cowboys ever and to me there's no doubt he should in the Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame one day, but those 90's teams had far better overall depth and one of the best coaching staffs if not the best in the league. We don't have any quality depth really anywhere except guard, defensive end, and linebacker.

The Cowboys won without Aikman because everything they did revolved around Emmitt and the running game. They also had some solid backup QBs during that period and played good defense.

Did that team record have anything to do with Emmitt Smith rushing for 12,566 yards for those seasons?

Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Okay, what was their record when Emmitt, Troy, and Michael couldn't play?

Suppose they never signed Emmitt in 1993 and he sat out or they traded him. Suppose he was the #1 rusher in 1992.

Then, in the first week in 1993, Michael gets hurt and is out the next 5 games. Suppose he was the top scoring receiver in 92.

Now Troy goes out in Week #2. Suppose he was the #1 rated quarterback in 1992.

If you can consider those circumstances then you would have a more accurate description of what happened this season.
