SEC soph DB looking at draft… South Carolina sophomore FS Ko Simpson, arguably one of the best safeties in college football the past couple of seasons, is reportedly thinking seriously about entering the 2006 draft. The 6-1, 205-pound Simpson had 100 tackles this fall and one interception after he picked off 6 passes last season. While technically only a sophomore Simpson is draft eligible because he sat out a year after graduating from high school before enrolling at South Carolina.

He would probably be a 2nd round draft pick, which I could see Dallas using to acquire much needed safety help.

If he is there in the 2nd when we pick, we can NOT pass him up

Gonna disagree with you. This is a draft deep at several positions and Safety is one of them. I can't see 3 Safeties in round 1 and he's the least known commodity.

Why would Dallas need him when Ty Law plans on giving Parcells a huge discount to come in and save the team with his big read cape?

Not sure how you can say that. He is actually one of the most know commodities at safety (to those who follow the draft year round) and his announcment was greatly anticipated. In a few weeks Huff will be the only safety ranked ahead of him and that's probably how it will stay.

Ko will be a mid first round pick.

Already he's listed as the 3rd best prospect at Safety by Scott Wright, 2nd by NFL Draft Blitz, 2nd by Ourlads, 3rd by Draft Board Insider, 2nd by TSN, 2nd by ESPN, and the list goes on.

I don't see Simpson as a first round pick.....Maybe a late first.

Roy Williams, Ed Reed, and that idiot on the Commanders are exceptions rather than the rule.

Usually, good safeties can be had later in round one on.

Huff is the best safety. If there's a lock at S for the first round, it's him.

Lots of depth at S this year.

How many drafts do you remember where more than 1 Safety went in round 1?

So if Huff goes in the top 10, maybe I see it happening. If he is #2 on lists as you say. That is a big maybe.

Most likely he falls to the 2nd or 3rd. It is simply a position that does not shuttle guys into round 1. In a deep draft especially.

Problem is that Ko won't be that far behind Huff and a talent like his at the safety position will not be overlooked. Were not talking about your typical safety. This guy has the skills of a Roy Williams or Sean Taylor just not the publicity. He covers like a Corner and hits like a Linebacker.

Honestly and I'm not trying to be rude but those of you that have said Ko won't get picked till round 2 or 3 are the first I have heard that even have thought that way.

If Ko Simpson stayed an extra year or two, he would gather the hype up like big time prospects, but he has only played 2 years and his publicity isn't as high like homeoflegends said

He almost had to come out. He's not as young as most prospects. It did not hurt Newman but for a safety it could of been critical.

You're not being rude, but I haven't seen a list on any site that has him in the top 32.

Just being honest.

He just declared. SEC Freshman of the year. He is probably not on anyone's list because he is just a sophmore.

lol, while what the poster above said is true it also true that a top 32 list does not reflect where the person who wrote it thinks the players will be drafted, that's what mocks are for. It simply who they think are the top 32 prospects regardless of position. I have never seen all 32 players on anyone lists all go in the top 32 of the draft.

That is an excellent point. Still plenty of time for all these lists to change before the draft.

By the way Hos, the simple fact that we are close enough to the draft to even have this debate makes me a very happy camper! lol

The simple fact that we have to look forward to the draft and not a game this weekend makes me sad. :p:
