It has been noted that the Cowboys are not real deep at DT right now, and those who noted this fact are correct... happily, the Boys have the cap room to do something about that in free agency, but unhappily, there's not a lot out there to get excited about... guys like Sam Adams are too old, and will want a starting job...

I did find 2 intriguing prospects, though:

Cedric Woodward, DT/DE, Seahawks... 6-2, 310 pounds... will be 29 years old when the season starts... 5.2 second 40... Woodward can play DE in a 3-4 scheme, as well as DT... has started just under half of his 61 games thus far in his NFL career (29 starts)...

Terdell Sands, DT, Raiders... 6-7, 340 pounds... will be 26 years old at the start of the 06 season... no 40 time available... this guy has started 1 game in his 28 game NFL career, obviously he'd have no philosophical problem with being a backup... I just worry that he might be a little tall for a NT, but he certainly has the necessary bulk...

The Boys might also look to the second day of the draft for a big NT type, but that's another post, for another thread...

I'd imagine we'll wait and see what shakes loose in the next round of cuts.

This is the position that worries me. I keep remembering what Larry Johnson did to this team.

I'm not sure there is much left in FA. I'd prefer to draft one....

Larry Johnson did that to every team. He simply had one of the best lines in the NFL. Besides, I don't recall that running up the gut was our biggest problem in that game. I'd rank DT as a need, but as a lesser need than say FS, SOLB, OL.

Theogt, with all the extra cap room created by the new CBA, I don't think there will be that much carnage on June 1st, certainly not as many releases as we've seen in recent years...

Of course, I could be wrong...

Woodward seems like he should draw our interests...

I'm sure I don't have to tell long-timers in here how I feel about ex-Longhorn players... LOL...

FWIW, we're all spelling the guy's name wrong, it's apparently Woodard, no second W in there...

I think that Sam Adams would be a good fit here for 2 years.

I see us standing pat right now. The problem is that there's be ZERO news/rumors about us being interested in guys or having guys visit outside of the recent LaVar and Woodson rumors which seem like a bit of a stretch. Looks like we're done with FA for the time being.

My goodness the cupboard sure seems bare at DT.

I still think we're going to look at a DT on Day 1 of the Draft.

These guys like Woodard and Sands will fly under the radar much the way Kozier did. We could be talking to them or even having them come in without it even making a ripple in the media. However, I really don't see us going that route. In fact I'm not so sure that Parcells would not be willing to go into the season with Fergie starting and Johnson and Ratliff backing him up. We will probably bring in some late rounders and UDFA rookies to see what they've got but that is what we have in Johnson and Ratliff already.

Out of this list I like Sands with that 6-7 340 size, he is a giant... I would like to have him as a Cowboy after Lavar Arrington signs.. even if LA don't I would like to have this giant..
