Linehan gets the play in immediately and there cannot be 5 seconds off the play clock before our QB is lining people up. I love it.

Romo was inaccurate. He gets like this from time to time and I am not overly concerned. I would like to see the coaching staff recognize it in the regular season and run the ball. He also got hit twice so perhaps we can stop with the whinging over whether he is going to break every play.

Instead we ran 4 and 5 receiver sets repeatedly. It looked much more like practice than it did a dress rehearsal. At least I hope so.

We gave the receivers plenty of opportunity and Clutts was not much of a factor at all. Murray I think that does not portend well for his future. Dunbar also got some opportunities. He was disappointing in pass protection but remains nimble in space. Free struggled in pass pro against Wake but he got no help.

Street got open on third down for the first team which was big for him. Terrence Williams seems soft to me and I don't like it. Beasley seemed inconsistent. Escobar in previous weeks has been a more reliable target. Harris didn't seem involved much at all. Boyd too for that matter. Newsome, Briscoe nor Byrd did anything truly remarkable.

Backup OL does pretty well. Run blocking opens lanes and gets on guys upfield. Was looking for 63 and couldn't find him but they change numbers and the like all the time. Wetzel seemed active but they like running behind Parnell

Ryan Williams and Randle both got hurt. Williams made a great block in pass protection while Randle helps on special teams.

We started mixing in our backups after the second series and rotated in a bunch of guys. After the third series, it was mostly 2nd teamers. As opposed to other teams who for two weeks in a row have left their players in for much longer.

Mincey looked slow and Crawford still hasn't figured out how to get away. Selvie got hurt. Wilson hand fighting is coming along nicely. The second string LT couldn't keep his hands on him and he was disruptive. He is improving and deserves a shot a the practice squad. Boatright and Bush continue to get pressure.

I am going to call Hayden cutback because he gives it up all game long. Coleman wasn't as effective this week but he was still able to get upfield and be disruptive against opposing 1's. Minter is very weak at the poa. Bishop is using his hands after contact now but he is not using anything but the same club he used in college off the snap. He needs to expand his game and his lack of significant progress is disconcerting. That being said he held up the poa better than Hayden if not all that well.

As a whole I think our guys look much more confident attacking out of zone coverages and did a good job for the most part of keeping everything in front of them. Bend but don't break that knows how to attack routes will make some plays on the ball and I counted at least 5 breaks on balls.

Carter showed up and looked aggressive and instinctive which was very encouraging. Wilber is struggling in the run game. Durant was up and down. Hitchens keeps getting praise but he looked godawful just late or overpowered. McClain looked physical in the run game. He likes to attack. I see Lawrence out there but he doesn't make plays. Smith showed good awareness going out to cover the slot WR. Sapp who has practiced with the team borked that same cover a couple snaps later. Smith also showed up with tackles in both the base and kick coverage.

Carr looked like a guy getting his feet wet but who hadn't settled in yet. He was tackling well. Scandrick continues to show an elevated game. Patmon is a monster in zone coverage. He is superb at picking up guys cutting across him in his zone and is instinctual in timing and feel for the ball. Throw in a good game tackling and I think he made a strong case for Mitchell and Patmon over Moore on the roster. Carr Scandrick Claiborne Patmon Mitchell

The starting safeties are both very good tacklers; Wilcox in particular brings a heavy load. They also are doing a very good job assisting their teammates playing in space in a cover 3 and helping over the top in cover 2. One thing we can accomplish on defense is taking away the big play and the starting safeties and guys at corner have done a good job with that. Wilcox overran Floyd last week and Mitchell got picked on in past weeks but the first team has done a good job keeping everything in front. Ryan Smith was identified and targeted repeatedly this game. It's not a good sign when you are a go to read for multiple QBs. Dixon's game is undisciplined but he does seem to see routes out in space but he is undecided as to what to do. Work in progress.

Fuzz, why our OT's having problems so far this ps? Tyron was dominant coming out of last season. What do you see?

Smith was fine. He didn't set up wide enough early on the first series. He adjusted quickly and was dominating after that.

The Dolphins blitzed which got Vernon and Wake isoed on Leary and Free who won one on ones. Leary looked particularly bad against the 3 techniques of the Dolphins. They took him out in the second quarter and Bernadeau wasn't doing much better.

Wake is a very powerful rusher and Free's punch wasn't strong enough is what that problem was. Leary was too passive and didn't use his feet so people set up wide and went around him. Opposing 3 techs is why I wanted Martin at LG but it is what it is.

I don't know if I would say Wilcox is a good tackler - head down and commence launching procedure every time he makes a tackle. Poor fundamentals and he is going to get hurt if he doesn't get a handle on it.

Good call on Hitchens - he has not looked good

Great to see Harris back returning kicks - he explodes up the field and is a huge weapon for us.

Going to be a tough decision on these young wideouts - these kids can play.

I thought Byrd had the play of the game at WR. That leaping catch from Weeden was impressive. He merits more looks, imo.
I thought, overall, Newsome had a terrible outing. The last game may go a long ways in terms of deciding which of the young WRs, if any, to retain or send packing.

Devin Street didn't do himself any favors, either, looking like an extremely green rookie last night. Being a 5th round draft pick, he'll almost surely be retained, however. It happens to all young rookies but he'd best look much better in his last preseason outing.

That groin injury to Ryan Williams appeared to be a nasty one that may keep him sidelined for a good while. Selvie went out with a shoulder injury also. Dwayne Harris is a tough cookie . . . takes a lickin' and -- well, you know the rest.

Sadly, an inept outing for the OL in the first half, especially for one that has been drawing so much premature praise thus far. Overall, poor outings for Leary, Bernadeau and Free.

The DL was terribly inconsistent but that's not surprising, considering all those inexperienced youngsters operating within it.

Romo appeared hesitant and unsettled most of the time. The OL did little to prevent it, though. His passes were off target much of the time. Understandably, the staff left him in longer than originally anticipated, no doubt realizing he needed the reps badly.

He gets his pad level down but I don't know about the launching attribution. He seems quite in control as he lands solid hit after solid hit. There is a difference between getting low as you run and simply dropping your head and diving at someone. Dixon does do the headhunting thing.

Patmon uses the same technique. It's how he hit the WR to force the fumble. He gets low but he doesn't get close to blows to the head. The wrap is done to the legs. If you watch Church, Scandrick, Carr, etc they all do the same thing. Try and get your helmet on the ball and wrap the legs.

I was thinking the same thing about Wilcox.

Murray looked slow and didnt give his all like he does in regular season,we were always in 3rd and long because of that.I also didnt like the 3-4 WR sets but i understand withh Esobar out.Romo has to get rid of the ball quickly to preserve his body,he holds it way too long.

Thankfully, as it turns out, what seemed to be a nasty injury to Ryan Williams' groin was actually just a cramp. Whew!
You've gotta love his physical running style but it's not too hard to figure out why he might be somewhat prone to injury.
Considering the fact that he's such a physically limited guy in size, he runs with the viciousness of someone much bigger.

you could say this about every powerful rusher Free faces. He looked helpless on those two sacks.

I'm hesitant to agree here on the inaccuracy. I think Romo put the ball high a few times so that the receiver could get it only. The ball to Dunbar looked more like a throwaway. And the ball to Street, looked like Romo was chastising Street for being in the wrong area in the first place after the play.

Instead we ran 4 and 5 receiver sets repeatedly. It looked much more like practice than it did a dress rehearsal. At least I hope so.

They ran no-huddle/2-minute offense almost exclusively in all their series. The third series when they had a fullback they huddled, but for the most part it was a lot of spread formations w/ no huddle.

Mickey talked about this weeks ago on TC, back when Romo's playing time in preseason was in question. Romo told Mickey that he wanted to play on the road, and get the "feel" of playing in "noisy road" game so that they could work on communication within the offense.

Their overall play was very deliberate as far as what they were working on.

We gave the receivers plenty of opportunity and Clutts was not much of a factor at all. Murray I think that does not portend well for his future. Dunbar also got some opportunities. Didn't see a whole lot from Clutts either. Agree on Dunbar's lack of ability to pickup a blitz. Beasley was slow starting out, I'm kinda of down on him because they are trying to open up his route running and he's not taking advantage of his opportunities.

Free still remains the weakest link on the OL, I thought they would at least slide some protection his way but as I said they were deliberate on what they were working on this game. The OL as a whole wasn't very good, penalties will torpedo good drives in flash and that's what happened with them a lot. They gave Bernadeau some snaps at LG and he didn't impress.

It does make me curious though, if the Cowboys would have had a game plan installed that included Power running plays to get the defenders to start thinking run. IIRC, there was only one PA pass that was run as well.

They'll make the same adjustment with free that they did last year. Martin will cover his *** on the inside and it will be up to the RB or Center to pick up the slack. That's what makes Williams a scary proposition as the #2. The kid runs like his hair is on fire but his blocking scares the crap out of me. We lost Romo for the year with a broken clavicle on a missed block from a RB on a delayed blitz, no?

This is why Bernadeau should start at RG and Martin at RT, but whatever.

Williams has been really good blocking the blitzers the past 2 games.

Thanks, Fuzzy...and I'm not looking forward to what is going to be change at the right tackle position for next or the upcoming years. Change there will be a little downward in trends. I don't think that the next top pick goes to offensive tackle with the needs on the defense. And I don't think the team wants to pay for a good tackle at free agency prices.

And this is another reason in support of Casmith07's view...

I wouldn't even mind starting Parnell, he'll make some mistakes but at least he's not going to be physically outmatched over and over again.
