Vikings coach Brad Childress, who worked with Terrell Owens when the two were in Philadelphia, had nice things to say about T.O.

By the time Owens was done in Philly he and Childress had an icy relationship, but obviously time heals wounds.

"You know what? I can't say anything bad about Terrell from the standpoint of being on the football field. He's a hard working guy," Childress said Friday morning. "He respects knowledge from coaches. He wants to do it right. He practices and plays a million miles an hour. Anybody that plays professional football that you can help keeping playing at a high level there is no downside. The key is being honest and direct and that's how I approached it."

In fairness, coaches or GMs in this atmosphere at the combine aren't going to publicly rip a guy, or any guy. On the record, every player in the league or at the combine here are great. They're families are great. They're all great players, etc.

Then you're the fool for asking the question, aren't you Mac?

I don't think the issue is really about TO on the field, is it? We all know the guy works hard. We've all seen him run fast. We know he can and does score TDs.

The problem I have with him is that he seems to be a locker room politician. He's always right, and it seems that he works to make sure that everyone always knows that - that they know his side of the story. Nothing is ever his fault, and he's more than willing to blame others for problems that happen. He wants to be trated with honesty and respect, but if you're honest, he's likely to blow up.

And having said all of that, I could still deal with it. In fact, I am just about resigned to dealing with it since I don't think Jerry will cut him loose, no matter what anyone tells him.

So with that in mind, I just want TO to stop talking. Don't give the interview to Deion. Don't start talking about snitches. Don't talk about how you can't throw it and catch it unless you want your QB to talk about throwing it and running the routes. Just don't say anything.

Hahaha...

I love how Mac Engel feels the need to qualify any positive statement regarding T.O. He did it yesterday after Tony Sparano complimented Owens and now he's done it again.

Coaches and GMs won't criticize a player at the combine? Why is that, Mac?

And furthermore, if Brad Childress wanted to rip Owens, wouldn't he have just offered a polite "no comment" rather than going the opposite way and praising the guy?

He can't undercut his wife Jen, what else would she write about besides T.O.?.

what was the point of that?

Mac just needed to get a dig in just in case Childress said the same thing to someone else.

Now everyone will know that Childress didn't really mean it...

It is all in the process of trying to find one soul to come out and rip TO. This is so comical yet sad.

Mac: Coach #1, do you care to comment about how much you hate the team wrecker TO?

Coach #1: He was one of the hardest working players I have ever met, any coach would love to have a player of his magnitude on their team.

Mac [under his breath]: Coach #1, I hate you.

Mac: Coach #2, do you care to comment about how much you hate the team wrecker TO?

Coach #2: He was one of the hardest working players I have ever met, any coach would love to have a player of his magnitude on their team.

Mac [under his breath]: Give me a freaking break you know you hate him why dont you just say it.

Mac: Coach #3, do you care to comment about how much you hate the team wrecker TO?

Coach #3: He was one of the hardest working players I have ever met, any coach would love to have a player of his magnitude on their team.

Mac [under his breath]: Son of a, I guess I have to write another blog entry about how the coach won't possible criticize TO in the fill in the blank venue.

That's a perfectly reasonable answer which explained his impression of Owens for four or five hours on Sundays and is totally expected. If Mac Engel wanted to do any real investigative journalism, he could've prompted Childress for his thoughts about Owens during the 100 or so hours per week during the season which he worked with him outside of gameday situations. Don't state for him that their relationship was "icy" off the field. Get him to describe it instead.

I imagine "on the football field" would encompass practice and other things related to practice, considering he actually goes on to mention practice.

So, unless Childress and TO went clubbin' together, that'd be the vast majority of their relationship.

LOL. If this isn't proof of an agenda in the media, I don't what is. I just didn't expect it to be admitted, albeit not intentionally, by a source that exists in it.

I actually DON'T think that is proof of an agenda anymore than your follow-up comment was.

I think its a very fair reminder to take what Childress is saying with a grain of salt.

That's just assumption beyond what Childress was quoted as saying. Engel should dig for more or not at all, since what he published wasn't anything new.

Sure. If you say so. Why report it if it's just supposed to be taken with a grain of salt, eh? Might as well just say "blah blah blah blah".

It's so obviously a disclaimer.

yeah he said practice. Owens from reports has never had issues practicing on the field.

Now sleeping in meetings, being late for meetings, not knowing his assignments? That is where the rubber meets the road and why Childress said he would never have another player like owens, and why owens went on espn and screamed and cried about how mean childress was to him in meetings.

Just like haley.

And ben n skin said it best, Owens works as hard as anyone on his body, when it comes to football no one has ever refered to him as a guy who studies and knows what is going on. He is like the opposite of moss who gets dogged for being lazy at times on the practice field but gets a lot of credit for working hard on knowing his assignments and everyone elses in meeitngs. That is why belichick called him one of the smarters recievers he has been around.

And did mac engle excpect childress or sporano to throw owens under the bus and get caught in some soap opera? They are both way too smart for that.

Then again I am an owens hating ******....So maybe I dont know jack.

You're correct. I'll re-phrase my comments to, "That's a perfectly reasonable answer which explained his impression of Owens for four or five hours on Sundays, 20 or 30 hours of practice each week and is totally expected. If Mac Engel wanted to do any real investigative journalism, he could've prompted Childress for his thoughts about Owens during the 20 or so hours per week during the season which he interacted with either the coaching staff and/or other players off the practice and/or gameday field (i.e. reviewing game film, etc.). Don't state for him that their relationship was "icy" off the field. Get him to describe it instead."
