Star-Telegram sports writer takes hit

Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin just about wiped out my Star-Telegram colleague Mac Engel on the sidelines. After a long pass to Terrell Owens that Hamlin broke up in the end zone, the hard hitter head ran right into the sidelines where the media and cameramen stand. They took out a camera crew and then Hamlin plowed through Engel and Babe Laufenberg knocking Mac's notebook out of his hand.

Hamlin didn't apologize.

Given Mac's history, I wouldn't be surprised if Hamlin yelled "I'M SORRY" multiple times.

Would that be an "up close and personal" enough story for the day.
They should have thanked him. Gave them something to write about and go home and show there war wounds.

Hamlin is in a football frame of mind, and when you're in that mind set, you hate everybody until the game or practice is over.

Yeah, it's not like Big Mac would have heard it anyway. He'd probably just say he was in the back of the endzone and Hamlin was facing away and he simply didn't hear him.

standing on the sidelines interferes with the players in my opinion, you can't just stop dead when you get to the out of bounds lines. Running over a bunch of people standing on the sidelines could hurt a player pretty badly.

Oh, your opinion.

Uh, the NFL and team makes room for the reporters and television camera personnel. They weren't interfering with the players any more than sideline press interfere with the players in basketball or football.

This was just one of those job occupational hazard deals where the press (who have a right to be where they are) are in the right place at the wrong time.

It's unrealistic to have a scenario where no one is on the sidelines. Even teammates and coaches are on the sidelines. They could get hurt running into a player or coach. Like someone said, it just comes with the territory.

My comment was intended to say he was justified in not saying sorry, what is the deal with people jumping my *** lately for comments based solely on context misunderstandings? Getting really annoying
