The Cowboys are targeting former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brooks Bollinger as their future No. 3 quarterback. So what do you think of Bollinger? Impressed by the 6-of-18 performance the other night against the Cowboys? He was part of the final cuts in Minnesota as the Vikes kept rookie draft pick John David Booty and veteran Gus Frerotte as backups to Tarvaris Jackson.

Little background the 28-year-old Brooks....he is in his 6th year and played the last two in Minnesota and his first three with the New York Jets. He has started 10 games in the NFL, including nine in 2005 with the Jets.

If the Cowboys sign him it wouldn't likely be until next week to avoid paying him the guaranteed salary due veterans by being on the season-opening roster.

Also, you have to think backup QB Brad Johnson is in the background giving an endorsement of Bollinger to the Cowboys. The two played together in Minnesota and were buddy-buddy after the game at Texas Stadium on Thursday night.

He sure didn't look like a 6th year vet with 10 games under his belt the other night. I don't like it one bit.

He'd be better than Bartel.

But theres no real upside there. Your third should be a developmental type player.

Yep.

We're going to hell in a handbasket.

Straight down the toilet.

Prepare for a top 5 pick next April.

Not a fan of this move....at all. I would just assume keeping Bartel.

Why no Simms?

I don't know about that. Bartel out played him the other night.

I think they are keeping that option open.....

The Dallas Cowboys are nuts if they think Bollinger is the answer for 3rd string QB. Gosh, he was awful last night and even Jamie Dukes whom has played foorball said this guy isnt a QB period on NFL Network.

I think this boils down to spending money, if the Cowboys want Chris Simms he is going to cost a little, but Bollinger would be dirt cheap. So, this stinks if they dont get Simms or a good QB, what in the sam hill did they think they saw against the vikes thursday night, he stunk the place up.

Has it occurred to anyone that Simms may not want to come here to be a 3rd stringer? He has the chance to start for a couple teams(Balt,Chi,Minn). If we get to our 3rd QB we're screwed anyways and can always call Vinny T.

I know this is weird to say because I have seen some games where he was just awful, but I have always kind of liked Bollinger. I can't put my finger on it. Despite all of his many weaknesses, there have been many times recently when I thought Bollinger was their best bet at QB.

I'd be open to this if some other team gets to Drew Henson before we do.

I'd take Henson over Bollinger.

I still think Beck was the right option but Carolina beat us to the punch. If we make a QB move (and I hope we do) the only good option is Simms. We're talking about the guy who will likely be our #2 in 2009.

Bollinger as the #2? Gag. I'd rather have Brad Johnson back for yet another year of FG and PAT holding duties.

But you're not nuts for wanting Joe Horn? I sense a change in direction my fellow poster.

if bollinger is the best that we can do with the no.3 qb spot, then why even bother having one? bartel on the ps is just as good. if we have to dig down the the no.3 qb, then does it really make any difference whether his name plate reads bollinger or bartel?

i thought signing a no.3 is for the better of the team. bollinger sounds like a waste of roster spot. he cannot even make the vikings roster, and they suck at the qb position.
