Cowboys tidbits
Here are a few tidbits I picked up at the Cowboys annual golf tournament today:

* No one will be inducted in Cowboys Ring of Honor in 2008.

* The Cowboys are not interested in free agent receiver Koren Robinson or Chris Henry.

The Cowboys will go with what they have at receiver unless they have the opportunity to get a big time receiver like Roy Williams, Chad Johnson or Anquan Boldin.

*The Cowboys have made no progress in contract negotiations with running back Marion Barber. As a result Barber has been a no show in the team's offseason program. He has spent his time working out in Miami. While the Cowboys don't question that Jones  will be in shape, they are disappointed that Jones is not working out with the rest of the team. He is a restricted free agent who has been giving a 1-year tender of $2.56 million.

Jones has made his career out of being the ultimate team player. Staying away from the team while trying to negotiate a longterm contract goes against his personality.

Talking with Jerry Jones

The Cowboys annual sponsor appreciation golf tournament was held today at the Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine. The media had a chance to sit down with Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones in the clubhouse and he talked about several topics. Here are the highlights:

* Jerry said suspended cornerback Pacman Jones has spent some time in Dallas in the last couple of weeks. Pacman is still not allowed to workout at the team facility but is following a workout schedule. The team is allowed to have contact with him and Jerry said he has visited with him several times.

* Jerry said he is not cornered about Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams, who revealed to Greg Ellis last year that he does not fit in Wade Phillips' defense, because of his competitiveness.

''For us to be the team we want to be, in my view, we need Roy to really be the player he can be,'' Jerry said. ''That's possible here. I have a lot of faith in Roy Williams.'' Jerry believes Roy can have a solid year because of the coaching with Dave Campo, Brett Maxie and Brian Stewart.

* Jerry said he is not concerned with the fact that running back Marion Barber is working out during the offseason in Miami (under agent Drew Rosenhaus' directive) and not at Valley Ranch. Jerry believes it will not have a negative effect on his preparation for the upcoming season.

Oxnard training camp dates set
The Cowboys will report for training camp in Oxnard, Calif. on Thursday, July 24 and the first day of practice will be held July 25.

Dallas is returning to Oxnard because of scheduling conflict with the Alamodome in San Antonio. The Cowboys will return to San Antonio next summer.

Also, the Cowboys will break camp and head to Denver Aug. 12 and will workout with the Broncos for two days. Following the preseason game with Denver, the Cowboys will return to Irving.

Another interesting part of training camp this year is that the Cowboys are planning to travel via train to the preseason game Aug. 9 in San Diego. This should make for some great footage for the NFL Films crew shooting Hard Knocks.

What does not working out with the team really accomplish, anyway?

Does it really make it more likely that Jerry will give him a big payday?

I'd like for Rosenhaus to answer that one.

I didn't like it last year when Julius didn't work out here with the team, and I don't like it now when Marion isn't.

I think Barber is letting Rosenhaus give him an over-inflated opinion of himself

I would like an answer to this as well. I cannot think of any advantage not working out at Dallas gives his client.

It sends the message that Barber is prepared to play hardball and that JJ left himself no leverage when he took Felix Jones over Mendenhall?

Cowboys sign two linemen

The Cowboys signed tackle Cory Lekkerkerker and guard Adam Stenavich on Wednesday.

Lekkerkerker has been in the league three years and played with San Diego and Miami last year under Cowboys offensive line coach Hudson Houck. He started two games in Miami last year at left tackle. He was also in San Diego when Wade Phillips was there.

Stenavich, who was out of football last year, was on the Green Bay practice squad in 2006.

While I like Barber, he's not worth what he wants, I would rather them go with Choice and Jones, than to overpay Barber.

Yeah, that stuff about Barber sends out a flare, but if he doens't show up for the OTA's then I will be concerned.

Rosenhaus. Nuff said.

I agree. I don't understand why some get concerned by the slightest pressure. Just a few weeks ago the thought was the addition of Choice gave the Cowboys tremendous leverage in their negotiation with Barber.

MB3, is following what his agent has told him to do. I really wish someone close to him would sit him down talk to him, show him some film if they have too. Show him film of LT, and film of himself, and especially the playoff game, and why they are watching these film ask him questions, on the good or great runs he had and of course the bad runs, and do the same while watching film of LT. Those questions should be phrase like so." why did you do that, what did you see, and on the bad runs, where is the hole, why did you not go there, what were you thinking, , and on LT's runs, similar type of questions, but on the playoff game, first question should be Are you tired, if not then what happened.

Now don't take the last part wrong, I am a big Barber fan, I said day one that he was a better RB than Julius Jones, and I kept telling people he will show it, and he did, but Parcells was just a stubborn old dude that would not and did not like to change things, and the only reason Wade did not change things he figured nothing was broken, so leave it alone, plus they knew that Julius was not going to be resigned anyway.

I really do not like the agenst that much, because they screw up these kids heads, as well as the fans and the teams if the player is a major contributor.

These kids need to be in control of their agents, not the agents in control of them.

I always tell my son, do not leave college early, unless you are ready to give up your carefree life, the money will be there, and if you are that good that people are coming at you (he will be that good) to leave early do not listen.
Do not let money rule you, you rule the money. I also tell him to not let his agent keep him out of training camp or anything that will have you apart from your teammates, because you will get behind and it is like you are saying "I make this team go" and if you want to be that type of person stick to running track or boxing because then you can say I did this, and even then you do not do it by yourself, because God is there helping you.

Oh, I almost forgot, we have both Felix and Tashard, and both are just waiting, to show their stuff, along with Ray Lewis's brother, (I do not know how good he is though)

I don't think Barber has all of the leverage. We have Jones and Choice and there are a few vets out there waiting for a call as well as some UDFA if we really get in a pinch. Can a FA play like a probowler? Of course not but I think Jones and Choice can be as good as Barber and Julius. I think signing a pro bowl FS is more important to us than signing a pro bowl RB.

I hope Barber gets signed. We need him. But I wouldn't over pay to get him. We have bigger decisions coming up this next year. If we overpay for Barber it could hinder our ability in what we do about Newman and DeWare.

Agreed, we can make do with Choice and Felix and maybe a street vet looking for a 1 yr run at a ring. I know he play has declined, but what about Stephen Alexander, I dont think he has signed with anybody that I have heard and he did win the MVP a couple of years back.

Choice, Felix, and maybe Alexander could get us by this year. I dont pay Barber $60 mill and if he holds out, *** him!!!
