Rookie Ogletree ousted Stanback
Hard to imagine what all those scouts were thinking when not a single NFL team through seven rounds hit on Virginia WR Kevin Ogletree. So kudos to the Cowboys staff for taking a stab at him. He's making them look good.
Ogletree's impressive training camp, including seven catches for 87 yards and a team-high two touchdowns in the preseason, made third-year receiver Isaiah Stanback expendable. The Cowboys cut Stanback on Saturday, but he was quickly snatched by the Patriots who put him on their practice squad as a QB.
"It was comforting," Ogletree said of making the team against heavy odds. "It showed what hard work and determination can do and now it’s time to focus my attention on keeping that level high and getting ready for the season and trying to help this team out."
Ogletree heads into Week 1 as the fifth receiver and playing on special teams. However, the WR situation is fluid. Miles Austin (hamstring) didn't practice Monday and Sam Hurd (quad) has been hurting, but he did return to practice after sitting out a couple of weeks.
"I think I can help stretch the field on offense a little bit and do some things on special teams, whatever’s asked really," Ogletree said. "That’s what I’m going to do, I’m just going to be that guy when my name’s called upon I’m going to come through. When you see me out there, just know I’m going full speed."

Irvin proud of Holley
Between his local radio gig and practicing for Dancing with the Stars, Michael Irvin is chatting up surprise Cowboys practice-squad WR Jesse Holley. The winner of Irvin's football reality TV show scored the game-winning TD at Minnesota on Friday, snaring a bouncing punt and then returning it 82 yards, spoke to Irvin that night.
"He said it was one of the most amazing plays he's ever seen," Holley said.
For the record, Holley made sure to point out that Irvin is tough on him, too, saying that he'll praise one thing and then harp on another part of his game.
Still, Irvin is filling Holley's head with mostly words of encouragement.
"He said this is just the beginning. We still have a lot of work to do," Holley said. "He always says 'us' like he's out there practicing with me."
