So much for Cowboys receiver Roy Williams' claims that he wouldn't talk to the media after a summer full of criticism. Williams not only talked after the Cowboys' first practice of training camp Tuesday at the Alamodome, he practically held court as waves of media members came and went.

Williams said he's excited about the season, that he enjoys the pressure that's heaped on his shoulders as the team's No. 1 receiver in the wake of Terrell Owens' release. He said his subpar production last season was a case of Tony Romo simply not trusting him after he was acquired in a trade from Detroit in mid-season.

"It's not like I wasn't open," Williams said. "It was a trust factor. He's going to throw to the guy he trusts. We fixed all that this year."

Williams wore the No. 4 in practice, the number he wore when he became a star at Texas. The number change confused quite a few reporters and photographers because the official team roster listed Williams in his usual No. 11. He won't wear the No. 4 in games, however, because league rules stipulate that wide receivers can't wear a number less than 10.

Williams, however, has a plan. During two-a-day practices, which the team will have Thursday, he plans to wear No. 4 in the morning and his game number, No. 11, in the afternoon.

"I'm back at home, man. I just want to feel comfortable," Williams said. "I'm comfortable in No. 11, but No. 4 is where it all started. It lookgs good, I wish I could wear it in games, but I can't."

He looked out of shape or something. Kept taking off his helmet and walking slow. At one point today, he took off his shorts and just played in his little compression shorts...eh.

i think it is silly how the NFL designates certain numbers to certain positions.

in a way it is nice to have that kind of organization, but still, I would like the players to have the freedom to chose their own numbers.

It would be cool to see Roy wearing #4

I like RW but it bugs me how he is always putting it on Romo for not getting him the ball.

do other fan bases jump from hating player to player on their own teams?

I am sick of it.

We don't hate. We just have a higher standard for liking here in Texas.

And a lower standard for knowing whatever the hell we're talking about when we don't like something.

Remember the one game....he was so wide open on that play, he may as well have been a contagious leper. I cannot how crappy our pass protection was on that play and how poor Romo's downfield vision was. It was an obvious TD.

Well, there's some truth to that statement.
Romo was far more comfortable with T.O. than Roy. On third downs who are you going to trust? There just wasn't much timing there...
With that said, Roy couldn't run routes that were worth a hoot last year.
Honestly, we expected too much out of him last year. What other WR do you see put huge numbers after being traded halfway through a season?

oddly, even with his injury and poor route running, whenever romo through it to him, it was a catch. and roy did get open an several plays, but never got the ball thrown to him.

i do believe a lot of that was comfort level. QBs have to trust their WRs. Aikman trusted Irvin, Montana and Young trusted Rice, Manning trusted Harrison and so on. Romo trusted TO and Witten. So I am sure his first two reads were to them. then he would read for anyone else....but the way our left OL was blocking last season, Romo didnt have much time to progress through his reads.

You are right there is some truth in what he said. But he could/should have taken responibility as well.

Sorry but people actively root against guys on the roster.

Exactly.

On the RW deal, Romo probably felt compelled to get it to TO even though Roy was open on some plays.

Complaining over nothing? Come on RW did not even say anything of controversy; people seem to look for anything they can nitpick over that is not higher standards

Every WR thinks he's open every play.

True, these guys are open even when they have 3 defenders around them. :laugh2:

I actually do not doubt that Romo like any QB in a pinch will look for certain go to guys that they trust and for Tony I think that was and is Witten and TO to a lesser extent.
