Cowboys consider standing-room tickets
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gets so excited when talking about his new $1 billion stadium that he often likes to come up with new ways to get people inside.
That's what happened last week when he was speaking to a group of businesspeople at the team's Arlington marketing center. At the luncheon, Jones spoke about a ticket concept similar to a time share where friends could buy a single ticket to a game.
The Star-Telegram mentioned the novel idea in an article Wednesday but more details have surfaced about the creative ticketing idea.
Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels said the team is considering offering tickets to the end zone plaza areas that would provide standing-room access inside the stadium. The Cowboys don't know whether this would be offered at every game or only at some of the more popular events at the stadium, such as the Super Bowl or a college-football rivalry game.
"This is just one of a number of ideas that we're able to consider now because of the building," Daniels said. "We have a great deal of flexibility going from 80,000 upwards with expandability to 95,000 or more for the Super Bowl."
The plaza tickets would be on an event-by-event basis, Daniels said. For example, the Arkansas-Texas A&M game, which will be played every year at the stadium starting in 2009, could have ticketed plazas with the Aggies on one side and the Razorbacks on the other.
"These people would be able to enjoy the atmosphere and the festivities around a big game but would be in the plaza area instead of inside the stadium for the game," Daniels said.
Of course, you never know what Jones may come up with next to get people to buy tickets. Seats on the retractable roof, anyone?
