I'm not sure I can tolerate a Jason Hatcher/Stephen Bowen platoon as his replacement though.

We may have to. I agree with you, it is a scary thought. Yes, Canty did not light things up this year, but these two are a very big step down. But you cannot reward every average player with a large contract simply because they hit free agency. That's what the draft is for.

I like Canty and want him back, but I don't want to break the bank. Hopefully, Canty wants to be here and maybe we can get some kind of break if that's the case.

I'm the guy who didn't want to break the bank for guys like Ken Hamlin. I don't want to for Chris Canty either. I think he's a good player, but I think he's overrated by some Dallas fans too. For instance, Canty is great and Spears is bad, when they are basically the same player.

If Canty gives the team a good deal, I would gladly take him back. If he wants the big money, let him walk. There are other guys who could do his job.

When a player says "I really don't think they want me here", we should all get out our Greg Ellisese dictionaries and realize it means he wants more money than we are willing to give him.

I don't see how the Cowboys can keep him given the need for solid DEs. Someone is going to offer him an obscene amount of money and he'll be gone.

I want him but not for a huge price tag and I'm not going to be shocked, at all, if the Dolphins decide to bring him to Miami.

You may be right, but it may also mean that since he is one of the few that is up that didn't get a new deal already, he may mean that as well.

Who knows? In the end, will Canty be the difference in us making the playoffs next year or not? Probably not. But he may be a contributing factor.

He hasn't done much since being here...very average. He didn't even do anything on a contract year...even bad players play decent on contract years.

Is there any doubt either Canty, Spears or Carpenter will end up in Miami if not all 3?

Canty is everything that is right with the Cowboys. Quality, character player...i think we need to keep those.

How about people that can actually play is what we need? You know, the sport is football and the objective is to win, within the rules...

He can play. When he hits the market, watch the money he will command.

He is average at best. He has had four years to get better and he hasn't. Sometimes you just have to let them go and try to find someone better. Average is something we can probably replace him with at the very least. It's not like he dominated anything.

The money a team pays for a player in free-agency doesn't necessarily reflect his worth. People get over-valued all the time.

He has been average at best. Our interior run defense was one of the weaknesses of this team.

Especially by the Raiders who pay safeties who won a superbowl, but wasn't actually that good of a player. :nono2:

I have no idea what they should do with him. I thought he would have a break out year but he was only steady.

Our run defense could be better but I don't have any idea whose at fault for it not being better.

I guess we'll see how much they think of him. I think he'll get big money outside of Dallas.

canty is a marginal to solid 3-4 DE. nothing special. in a 4-3 he would be a less attractive seeing as though he doesnt have the burst to rush the passer. in that case, i just dont see where the interest would be unless its from miami, new england or pittsburgh. not much in the way for competition imho. i just say make him a solid offer, he if get something ridiculous let him walk.

I know I've posted this before, but would you guys take Canty or Igor Olshansky? I did some searching and saw that he is not expected to return to the Chargers after this season. He knows the system cold after playing in Wade's system for a few years, so there wouldn't be much, if any, transition. I saw where he wants a big contract, but of course, who doesn't? Canty probably does, too.

Another thing is that IIRC Parcells liked him a lot coming out. Wonder which one Parcells would prefer, if he even wants to spend for a DE.

Not sure I see any difference between the two players to be honest. And I know I wouldnt pay Olshansky more money to come here than I would canty to stay.

That said, I really doubt Canty gets a break the bank offer from anyone. He might get some decent offers that we might not match, but he isnt going to get 8-10 mils a yr.

other than a couple of games, the run defense was solid to excellent all yr. even the ravens game the run defense was outstanding till those last two stupid runs, and that wasnt bad defense, it was just poor tackling.
