IRVING — Cowboys Stadium’s retractable roof and the world’s largest sliding glass doors behind each end zone will be open for Sunday night’s nationally televised regular-season home opener against the New York Giants.
It’s the first time in the stadium’s brief history that the roof and doors will be open for any event.
Both features will be opened two hours before the 7:15 p.m. kickoff and will remain open throughout the game, barring inclement weather, in which case the Cowboys can close the roof and doors.
According to the NFL, the roof can be closed after the game has started if hazardous conditions (lightning, severe winds, ect.) develop or is anticipated. If a game starts with the roof open, it shall be closed any time up to the last five minutes of the fourth period if it begins to rain. Play will continue while the roof is closing.
The retractable doors, 120 feet high by 180 feet wide, provide a gateway from the outdoor plazas to the indoor plazas, about 180,000 square feet on three levels where approximately 30,000 fans who purchased a $29 standing-room-only Party Pass, according to Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels, will watch Sunday’s game.
