Forget the X's and the O's. Throw out passer ratings and game plans. There are reasons why either the Chicago Bears or Indianapolis Colts will win the Super Bowl, but they have nothing to do with those silly things. Pick a side, and then study the following arguments on why your team will be Super Bowl champions come Sunday night.
Why the Colts will win
5 Quarterbacks whose last name starts with M have won six championships. Quarterbacks whose last name starts with G have won just two.
4 Colts have one player (Bo Schobel) from TCU, the Bears have none.
3 When the Super Bowl is in Florida, AFC teams are 8-4.
2 When the Super Bowl is held in February, AFC teams are 4-0.
1 The Law of averages. Peyton Manning never won a high school or college championship, so he's due.
Why the Bears will win
5 The team with the better regular-season record is 24-9 in Super Bowls. Chicago was 13-3, Indianapolis was 12-4. On seven occasions, teams entered the game with the same record.
4 There's never been a team that lost three games in December and then won the Super Bowl. The Colts lost three in December.
3 Quarterbacks with the number 18 (Peyton Manning) have never won a Super Bowl. QBs with the number 8 (Rex Grossman) have won five.
2 The coach with the longer name has a 23-8 record in Super Bowls. Lovie Smith is a letter longer than Tony Dungy. On nine occasions, the coaches had the same number of letters.
1 It's the year of the Gator. Florida won the NCAA basketball and football championships and Bears quarterback Rex Grossman is a former UF star. And duh, look where the game is being played.
