FWST Reporting Death in TO's family

FWST article in today's newspaper by Clarence Hill & Rick Herrin is reporting TO isn't playing because of a death in his family. Article states:

According to two sources, Owens left camp Tuesday morning after being informed of a death in his family. Cowboys public relations director Rich Dalrymple said Owens is “tending to personal business.”
Owens was at Valley Ranch for meetings then left and missed practice. The morning practice was cut short due to inclement weather

I said clearly if there was a legit excuse, I would be fine with the absence. There is a legit excuse. So I am fine with the absence. Never at any point did I say that there was not a legit excuse. Folks chose to read that into my reluctance to unconditionally give the benefit of the doubt.

Another problem with people is that they don't actually read posts and then spout off about what was or wasn't said by that person.

But see your problem? You don't even know the facts of why he wasn't at TC. Why post anything regarding his absense at all?

actually Summer this is what I said

I've said it before -- but what choice does the team really have when a player asks to be excused -- you could create a bad situation by saying no and fining the guy or you can excuse him. TO knew he'd get excused if he asked. My issue is that, unless this is a serious matter that could not be dealt with at another time (e.g., death in the family), then he shouldn't have asked.

I'm happy to take it back if he's got a serious excuse. But given that he missed time at last year's OTAs, I'm not willing to give BOD unconditionally.

Again, I'm happy giving the benefit of the doubt if it comes up that there is a reasonable excuse. But I've had enough BS vacation-type excuses for the off-season to remain skeptical.

No, my attitude is that players need to be at work. Period. You need a really serious excuse to not be there. As I said before, if it comes out that TO has a specific emergency that needed to be dealt with, I'm fine with the absence. But until that time, I will repeat. Be at work.

which is why you wait to get all the information

and the team isn't going to excuse a player from mandatory camps just for anything, and a player like TO, who works as hard as he does, never asks to be excused from these things
