Time to recalculate what it will cost to keep Zack Martin at RG. Gabe Jackson just signed a 5 year extension for 56 million not bad for a third rounder. The quicker Martin's deal gets done the cheaper it will be as several other elite guards are in the same contract situation as Zak.

Didn't Zeitler get more than that?

I'm sticking with 6 year, 70 mill, 40 guaranteed.

Heck they might as well start thinking about getting La'els contract done too.

I'm a bit surprised we haven't given Collins a deal paying him like a first rounder for the next two years.

Why would the Cowboys do that? For one, having Collins on the cheap helps their cap. Two, he hasn't really done anything to date to warrant a bigger pay day. Now they could play the percentages and try to get a longer, cheaper deal on him now thinking he might blow up down the road but we've been burned by that logic in the past - Tyrone Crawford.

He'll be a RFA after this season, I believe. I think the Cowboys will watch him and if he plays very well, they will try to sign him. If he's so-so, I suspect they might tender him (1st rounder) at $4MM and if some team signs him, they will just take the #1 pick.

Why.would we do that? Gee, maybe because it's the right thing?

Zeitler had already signed a bigger contract at 5/60.

Really think that a two year All Pro will have to await proving if he is good enough...OKie Dokie.

LOL, what? The Cowboys are apparently doing right by him. They've apparently already told the agent they wont pick up his option year that allows him to hit RFA a year earlier than most UDFAs. I suspect most teams would have just grabbed the cheap option 4th year on him.

The Cowboys are handling this entire thing properly. It's smart business to use cheap contracts to your advantage. Most smart teams would do exactly that.

I really doubt that rumor is true. That would violate the CBA

You are right. I stupidly got that from Clarence Hill but it appears he's wrong (surprise). There is no "option" year for Collins. Just a 4th tender year. He will be a RFA this offseason.

It will be interesting to see if Martin wants to break the bank, which is his right, or do a somewhat team-friendly deal.

I wonder if Collins doesn't want to sign anything now and hedge his bets that he can show he be a legit Right Tackle in this league.
Sure, he'll get some financial security signing a deal sooner than later, but if he can show he belongs at RT in the regular season, then he can make a pretty penny in a year or so.
