A big part is the fact that we decided to spend what little we were spending on a two down LBer like Brinkley. Gachkar at least can play special teams.

Not to split hairs but Ro was mostly a 2 down LB until injuries started happening. He did not play nickel until the depth was shot.

It's been tweeted that the first year cap hit is 1.6 like Gachkar's cap hit. There is a 2 million option in the 2nd year. To me it looks like a 1 year deal.
We have to hope that it is not because that would mean Gachkar played awesome and year 2 is somewhat at a bargain price.

Not true at all. Unless you wanna claim depth was shot by the time we signed him.

A little bit, yeah...
Edit: Just had a thought that maybe this is the opposite of paying for "past achievements" philosophy and more of a "paying for what we believe you are going to do for us" kind of thought process...

Shoot. I have to admit to you, brothers and sisters: I started on the Thelonious Monk Ale and I am now riffing, but don't worry- if I keep this pace: I will stop posting within then next few hours whether I want to or not.

Party on dude.

Staring at the screen... feeling like I'm in a fish bowl and everything is pretty darn funny right now.

Yeah... Glad I have lots of carbohydrates and electrolytes nearby... going to need those.
And a good woman... she just came home. I need someone to catch my sure to be falling body when it happens...

Hasn't happened yet. Even when it does- I'm going to keep posting from the floor.
I have a laptop...

He excels at being a thumper in a base defense. He only played nickel when Durant and Carter were hurt, mainly the 11 best athletes the defense had. Towards the end of the year Hitchens and Carter played the nickel much more than McClain.

These don't look like big value deals to me. They are approaching starters money.

The guaranteed money is more than I expected considering that it seems doubtful that both of them will be starting (unless the Cowboys are going to trade Lee).

Looks like Brinkley will be the 1st and 2nd down thumper. Gachkar will be the jack of all trades sub and ST ace.

Lee moves to WLB and RoMc is gone. Just my thoughts.

There is no such thing as a 1st and 2nd down thumper in this league. If you can't cover, you can't play.

His acrobatic int against Jake Locker came in the Nickel with him and Carter. Against the Saints he had several snaps in the nickel while they were playing catch up. All 3 of those LBs rotated in the nickel when healthy. Hitchens replaced Durant late in the year.

Trust me, I watch the games.

I covered that in my review of Brinkley. He was fine the the shallow zones or man under crossing routes which was the extent of what he was asked to do.

I know that but ideally he does not play the nickel he may rotate in to give guy a breather but if they start a game in the nickel he was not the "starter". Ideally he is not a nickel backer Raiders knew that this team knows that but all things being equal with this defense you try and get your most talented players on the field when you can.
