Last year Dallas struggled from a lack of field position. No turnovers, No kick/punt returns, No defensive 3 and outs....nothing seemed to ever give us drives starting near midfield or in our opponent’s territory. Game after game, it was Drive the ball 70-80 yards or don’t score.

Washington beat the Eagles on Sunday with three TD drives of 45, 20, and 48 yards after two interceptions and a punt return. Those were the only TD’s they scored.

Sunday night, our Cowboys had 4 first half possessions, starting on our 25, 20, 25, and 27. We scored 14 points. In the second half, our 6 possessions began on our 32, 25, 39, 35, 12, and 9.

That’s 10 possessions with an average starting field position of our own 24.9. Those last two starting on our own 12 and 9 at crunch time are a huge challenge for a team with a struggling OL.

New year; New defensive philosophy; same incredibly difficult field position which is hard to overcome.
Hopefully, our day, month maybe, is coming when our offense gets a short field once or twice a game. Those can make all the difference, even if converted to FGs.

The main problem is the QB

We completely sucked in the red zone last year, despite all our passing yardage. The excuses regarding starting field position don’t work.

True.....who knows how many SB’s we would’ve on by now with the awesome teams we field every year if we only had a QB. I really don’t understand all the stupid coaches who keep building their offenses around him when they have nothing invested in him, a fourth round QB.

Excuse? Simply a fact. Last season we had the worst starting field position in the NFL. Teams don’t win without short fields now and then. It’s not an offensive problem alone. We spend tons of monandraft capital on offense for years, Enron defense or special teams. Alas is not yet a good football team.

It’s been this way since 2015. The defense lacks the ability to help the offense.

It's one game, but I cant help but notice they still play with little urgency or desire.

The realization that this Jerry/Garrett infected culture may not be fixable for some time is bothersome.

That would make sense and not something I thought of during that long offseason.

I was truly thinking a new voice and schemes could make all the difference.

The average starting position for us was about 26, while the average starting position of the league was 27 and the number 1 team was 32. 1 yard is not statistically significant in comparison to how much we failed in the red zone.

the most shocking thing about the game sunday night was how lethargic and slow the defense looked. It was like we had a team full of senior citizens. In the first half they were the worst unit I saw all weekend. Admittedly i have seen none of the browns game so they were probably worse. Even the jets who were awful played with more energy.

This! The miss and then the not kicking the FG we would have been up by 3.

Absolutely. Looks like every other team I watch swarms to the ball with speed.

    Dallas is doing something else.

If you look at who our best defenders were.....ASmith, Diggs, Griffen...guys who weren't here. Granted Awuzie graded high due to the pick.

But it's just gotta be that entitled culture combined with the idea of not trying anything new offensively.

I mean....maybe its gonna take two full douchings of the roster to kill the Garrett stench, and maybe a full offseason for some other things....and I KNOW its one game....I'm just disappointed.

If and when they thrown up 38 this week at home it wont change my thinking that they dont still look like last year.

I noticed that too. I thought it might just be me, so I kept quiet about it. We'll see what happens going forward.

Outdoor arena 50 plus FGs are not a gimme. I wasn't happy with the decision to kick that FG.

You mean a new coaching staff with no real offseason can't resolve all problems before they've ever played a game, not even a preseason game...

Not saying you’re wrong, but check where you found that 27 again. I believe that was the average starting position in the NFL after kickoff(s). Our 24.9 was the average starting field position for every Drive all season after turnovers and punts, etc.

You can't ever expect a kicker to hit from 53 yards. Anything 48 plus is hit and hope territory.
