I see a lot of ridiculous comments about coaching, missed FGs, defense, etc.
Please, face the reality...our offense never even smelled the endzone; Suisham missed 48 and 49 yard fgs...nice if he made them, but the other guy was kicking chip shots (by the way, he nailed his 33 yarder). The defense went into the fourth quarter having only given up 17 total points, and 3 of those came off a turnover.
Minnesota was the class of the NFL in kick coverage...they put the special teams player in the probowl...it was no fluke that we got nothing in the return game, but then we started them on the 20 on two kickoffs.
Despite Romo's first fumble, we took everything the Vikes threw at us defensively and still moved the ball up and down the field on them...until Flo went out. I hope those who kept calling for cutting Flozell and those who griped when Colombo took back his starting job were paying attention today. Flozell blocks his DE man on man...we give lots of help to Colombo, but when Flozell went down, everything changed...now we had to help Free because he couldn't block by himself; that exposed Colombo who had to block by himself and seldom got a hand on #91.
Romo was running for his life. Early on, the passes were going to Austin and Crayton...and I'm sure eventually we'd have seen some to Roy Williams. After Flozell went down, Romo had eyes only for Witten...Witten...Witten. Announcers claimed our Wrs were running free in the secondary, but Romo never had a chance to look their way.
3rd quarter...only down two scores...the defense did it's job on the opening possession...the offense runs the ball down the Vike's throats...that's how you stop the upfront stunts and twists...but in my opinion Romo made a horrible audible at the line to run the counter pitchback to Barber who lost 7 yards on 2nd down...end of drive.
I'm not saying the Cowboys would have won because the Vikings defense dominated this game today...the number of points the Vikes finally put up were somewhat irrelevant because in the 4th quarter it was desperation time and time to gamble.
To me, the whole game changed when Flozell Adams went out...did Miles Austin even get another look after that? Certainly, Roy W. never had a ball thrown his way, not on a slant, a crossing route, or even a toss up...Romo had nothing but catch the snap, spin, duck, and throw it to Witten, get knocked down and get back up.
We lost the game on the OL, and the OL fell apart and lost any control on offense when Flozell Adams went down.
I sure hope he's back next year...because we don't have anyone even close to him in pass protection.
The offense's inability to score put Suisham in tough situations, but let's say he drills both missed FG's...let's say Romo doesn't fumble twice or throw an int....it still makes no difference in the game because when Flozell went out, we had no answer for the Vikings pass rush.
12-6...damn good, but as they say in Highlander"There can be only one." Unless you are the one team that finishes as the Super Bowl champions, you are one of the other 31 teams whose season ends in misery.
Final comment: Spencer is an animal...he was hustling all over the field, tackling the RB, tackling receivers, rushing the QB...he was very visible. DWare? Except for his first sack which came from an unusual rush spot, he was Mr. Invisible. He rushes hard, but he didn't even make plays, did he? I think that final TD to the Minny TE was more a reward for him than poor sportsmanship...Vishanco, or whatever his name is, has been huge for them all year in the receiving game...probowl type numbers and TDs, but today....nothing. The Vikes were not going to allow DWare to hurt them...they assigned their big play TE to helping with Ware, which may explain part of why we never even saw him near Favre. I think that final TD may have been recognition/reward for his selfless blocking job all game long. Just an opinion.
