Temperatures supposedly will hit -18 with a windchill of more than (or is it less than?) -30.

Absolutely brutal conditions.

Can imagine if the Superbowl ends up being played in conditions like that?

The Cowboys - Packers famed "Ice Bowl" had a low of -20 °F with wind-chills of -50+ is the coldest game in history.

Would be crazy to see a game in worse conditions. Sounds like this one might be close.

Ouch!!! That just sounds painful, especially for a Southeast Texas guy who has never been in temperatures lower than the teens.

I think SD at Cincinnati in the playoffs in I think 1981, I think it was 81, was the coldest, or very close to it. At least to the wind chill factor.

A game I'll never forget......
"The Cowboys were alerted to the elements by wake-up calls from operators who delivered time and temperature in cheery voices. Guard George Andrie recalled the teasing message that got him moving.
"The lady said, 'Good morning, it's seven o'clock and the temperature is 14 degrees,'" said Andrie. "Then she paused for the effect and said … 'below zero.'"
............and it got colder!!! I was freezing just watching it in San Antonio.

Read a funny story of a older man now who was a young kid during the Ice Bowl. His family had tickets and he was sick that morning. He didn't want to miss the game so he soldiered on.

At one point early in the game he rushed from the stands to go to the bathroom because he was sick. He vomited near a gateway and then abandoned the steaming mess to get cleaned up in the washroom before heading back to his seat.

On the way out of the stadium he passed his mess and it was frozen solid. One can guess how long it stayed in that state. Spring thaw anyone?

At least the game isn't being played in North Dakota.

Oh, what's the status of ticket sales in Green Bay?

With that kinda cold, doing anything becomes painful. That ball is gonna be like a block of ice, the kickers are liable to break a toe.
It's gonna make for an interesting game.

LOL. Good story.

I have one in the same vein -- in 1990 I went to a game at Lambeau (actually the last game the Lions won in Wisconsin) with a bunch of Lions buddies (I live in Michigan). It was like 2 degrees at kickoff. We sat in row 1. I went to buy a soda at concessions. By the time I got back to my seat the entire top of the soda froze over and I had to crack it open to get any out.

I love my team and I love football but there's no shot I'm paying a good chunk of change to sit in -20 temperature for 4 hours. Absolutely not worth it.

What was the temp for the game against NYG in 07/08? I know it wasn't quite that cold, but everybody out there just looked like they were in pain. Probably why they haven't sold out.

You know it's cold when they are having trouble selling out Lambeau.

Giants @ Green Bay 2008

-1 with a -23 windchill.

Cowboys @ Green Bay 1967

-13 with a -46 windchill.

Projection for Sunday 49ers @ Green Bay

Somewhere between -3 (the high the day) and -19 (the low for the day) with windchills of -30 to -40. Game starts at 3:40pm CST so it will be on the colder side by the end of the game.

You'd think that cold was cold and there wouldn't be much of a difference between 0 and -20 until you realize that your balls are parallel to your liver.

Well maybe that kind of cold element will benefit the team with the better power running game and solid front seven. I don't see either team throwing the ball all over the yard in this game.
