I'm not a Garrett fan and still don't belive that.

I do.

That is considering we have a coach that gets more with less which we should be able to find since we are the Dallas Cowboys and all.

All we have done with Jason is line up and hope ours guys beat their guys and if they don't then maybe Romo will bail us out with his feet.

We were very unfortunate to be so archaic under Garrett and it just speaks to the type of talent we have had that our players are able to produce when they play in a offense that just takes what the defense gives.

Oh, puleeeeeeeeeeze. Garrett didn't thow them picks or assembly those early awful teams when Romo was new here.

Yeah but he called the plays the exact same way he does now and did nothing to take pressure off of the Oline.

He was absolutely clueless how to beat a defense that loads the box and presses season after season.

We still to this day aren't creative enough getting guys hands on the ball.

If but for Michael Irvin's off field problems, Randy Moss would have been a Cowboy.[/quote
;)
Amazing that you would mention Kevin Smith today. For some reason, I thought of him and was doing some research on him today. He was a very underrated contributor to the Cowboys' 90's dynasty. 'Pup' won Super Bowl championships in 3 of his first 4 years in the league. Talk about being spoiled!

Too bad that injuries cut short his career. I remember at one point Smith was giving the great Jerry Rice fits!

I also mentioned him the other day in the top 3 defensive players in the 90's thread. He was pretty darn good. He also had the SWC Int. record until Tracy Saul of Tech broke it. As I mentioned the other day, had he had hurt that Achilles with todays medicine he would have been back possible to normal. Kind of like the great Sayers could have been with his knee.

The ultimate RUE! And to think he never was a trouble maker his entire career outside of taking a play off or two. Still sick about it! Aikman might have played another couple of years!

Him calling the plays: May he called them as to what the team had, and that is a dearth of talent.
Beating defenses? Yeth, with the great O lines we have had in prior years.
As to being creative: I think he half been creative. Just that Lady Luck half not been on our side and the ball has not rolled favorably to us. I think he was plenty creative figuring out how DeMarco could run for 1,800 yards and Romo passing like a HOFer.

To blame all this on Garrett is absolutely incredible. Like I said: he half not thrown picks, he half not tried to arm tackle and I think he half given is best based on the limits we half had on defense and the slow coming together of this now-great offense. Oh, I supposed Garrett just inherited this great offense, right?
Ohhhhhhhhhh you make me so mad!!!!

Holy moly, it must get tiring trying to continually chop the man down.

Good grief, what's the end game for you? Garrett gets fired? We win the SB in spite of him? We go 3-13 so you prove us all wrong?

As for the thread, but for Jimmy Smith's injury/illness, Jerry wouldn't have futilely chased the elusive 2nd WR and destroyed the team's future – for years – in doing so.

(That said, Jerry's turned things around the last few years, in spite of our no-good coach. 12-4…errr, how dare that terrible coach post such a record)

If But for Irvin's five game suspension in 1996, Dallas goes 13-3 and gets HFA in the NFC playoffs again, winning back to back titles under Barry Switzer. Switzer retires, Cowboys hire Dan Reeves to replace him.

what's a 'but for'?

Sitting and s#itting, mostly.

If you're asking a serious question, "but for" is an expression meaning "if it were not for..." The inclusion by the OP (and most others in this thread) of the hypothetical "if" prior to the expression "but for" is actually redundant and ungrammatical, but whatever.
