great performance by our team...the talent this defense has is going to be scary for opponents this yr

1) Terrance Newman DNP, I havent heard why...anyone know?

2) great pressure packages and blitz designs tonight...virtually all of them worked and Cutler was basically lost and hopeless...they couldnt do anything with our 1st team D...their best play was a fluke completion on a ball Spencer deflected

3) offense was on again, though Romo threw a few wobbly ones tonight...int was not his fault however...Miles Austin tripped over himself or slipped and left an easy pick...Austin also dropped one of Romo's best throws..prob would have been 20+ yd gain or so

4) Denver basically got no pressure on our QB's all night, but the first team OL looked really solid for their first time together in a game..

5) Ware, Spears, Burnett, Ferguson, Canty all had their way...Burnett was a highlight film all by himself in the 2nd half...he was really good

6) defense just flew all over...numerous huge hits...constant pressure on th QB and Denver had only one or two good running plays all game

7) the Folk kid can kick

8) in another yr or so Stanback may prove to be a real find...not even a yr removed from the injury and basically learning about WR, and he looked good...great catch for TD

9) all our RB's had good games

10) Joey Thomas is prob going to make the team, but he is exactly what Phillips said he was with too much contact...also isnt much of a tackler

overall it was a great effort...this looks like a very good football team and if the key guys stay healthy, we're definitely making a run this yr

Someone explain the two Stanback catches for me, please, since I didn't get to see the game.

newman has a minor foot injury. he sat out as a precaution.

i thought McQuistan was VERY IMPRESSIVE with his blocks tonight.

we have some real dilemmas at WR,LB and K. tough choices to be made.

nice to see stanback get that TD. he's on the roster, i would think.
and nice to see carpenter make an athletic INT.

very optimistic stuff so far.

TD was kind of a corner route...ran by two guys and Johnson threw a good ball, Stnback extended his arms/hands and made a great catch with the two guys close

the other was a 3rd down conversion play if I remember right

Great performance by our team...the talent this defense has is going to be scary for opponents this yr....

I agree completely.
1) Terrance Newman DNP, I havent heard why...anyone know?

He has a sore heel. Held out as a precaution.

2) great pressure packages and blitz designs tonight...virtually all of them worked and Cutler was basically lost and hopeless...they couldnt do anything with our 1st team D...their best play was a fluke completion on a ball Spencer deflected

Our 1st team D is scary good. I think it'll be even more nasty with Ellis and Burnett in with Spencer and Ware, Ratliff and others for the nickel.

3) offense was on again, though Romo threw a few wobbly ones tonight...int was not his fault however...Miles Austin tripped over himself or slipped and left an easy pick...Austin also dropped one of Romo's best throws..prob would have been 20+ yd gain or so

The Denver D is a solid group but our OL did a good job and the running game flourished. We got a few guys open in the passing game for real nice gains.

4) Denver basically got no pressure on our QB's all night, but the first team OL looked really solid for their first time together in a game..

Absolutely.

5) Ware, Spears, Burnett, Ferguson, Canty all had their way...Burnett was a highlight film all by himself in the 2nd half...he was really good

I'd add Ratliff who seemed to get a great push more than once.
6) defense just flew all over...numerous huge hits...constant pressure on th QB and Denver had only one or two good running plays all game

Again, can' argue at all. Burnett was a serious force in the second half and aside from the pressure being a bit lessened with the 2nd string guys in there isn't much to complain about.

7) the Folk kid can kick

I really think both guys are very solid. Grammatica missed but it was from 51 and he had the distance. Thats a long way from Vanderjagt/Shuisam.

8) in another yr or so Stanback may prove to be a real find...not even a yr removed from the injury and basically learning about WR, and he looked good...great catch for TD

He looked really good. Glad he has an 80's number. He just really impressed me and I didn't expect him to make the active game day roster at all. He looks like our 5th best WR right now as a WR. Thats pretty amazing. His hands on that TD pass were just so friggin soft. I think he is Wr4 with the 5th guy being a special teamer, perhaps Austin.

9) all our RB's had good games
All except Jackie Battle who limped off after a single play.

10) Joey Thomas is prob going to make the team, but he is exactly what Phillips said he was with too much contact...also isnt much of a tackler

He can definitely cover but you can see why he isn't a starter anywhere. He has the ability to run with the guys no doubt. Did not seem as strong with the ball in the air. On the Carp INT he was the defender who forced the deflection.

overall it was a great effort...this looks like a very good football team and if the key guys stay healthy, we're definitely making a run this yr

It is getting harder and harder to be cautiously optimistic. Denver actually plays ti win pre-season games under Shanny. When the 1's wer eont he field it was a totally one-sided affair.

But I keep reminding myself we dominated the Saints last pre-season then got out butts kicked in the most embarrassing possible fashion in the regular season.... That's about all I got to keep me from screaming Super Bowl at the top of my lungs.

Could be a really exciting year.

No, don't let that stop you. We know the overriding reason why we lost to the Saints in that fashion in December. That reason will not be a factor this year.

On the first it was an underneath route where he found a soft spot in the zone.

He caught the ball on his cross in stride and tried a spin move on the defender but took a good pop and held onto the ball.

On the second he ran a Post pattern perfectly and against fairly tight converging coverage caught a well thrown almost lob style pass from Johnson with feathery soft hands for a TD. It was quite impressive. He ran much better routes than what I have seen in his limited practice clips and just looked like a WR. A very fast one with good size and soft hands. Similar to the guy on the other side, Javon Walker.

I pretty much agree with you David.

I thought Spencer looked pretty good. He was getting close and worrying the QB a lot even though he wasn't reachng him. And he was really hustling out there giving it a great effort. He is a rookie still and he is changing positions and all of that. Under the circumstances I think he is looking very solid and will do nothing but get better.

It was interesting to note that McQ is back as the #2 LT since Colombo is back. There was some talk that Free was going to subplant McQ in that job. I don't see that happening with the game that I saw out of McQ tonight; he looked pretty solid to me.

The running game looked very good; our top three RB's all looked good. We could go on and on about that topic but I think that is best left to another thread. ;)

The OL was in fine form and Bigg was kicking some major booty. Colombo looked like he got off to a bit of a slow start...just not sharp of the first few plays but he picked it up. It's to be expected I guess for his first real contact. Dre is gonna be solid at Center again and Kozier will be more than adaquate. It's a contract year for Flo so he should have a big year...we will see.

The secondary looked good even without T-New. Henry had a decent game and Roy looked like the lost weight will help his coverage.

Linebackers had a good game as a whole and I was real pleased with what Carp and Burnett did in the second half. Even Bradie James looked pretty decent.

the only reason Free was practicing at LT instead of McQ is because the staff pretty much felt that McQ was developed enough that he could go from left to right w/ no problem

Guys, everybody take a deep breath and enjoy this feeling.

So many times over the last decade, I've felt like we were the team on the other side of performances like those.

NEVER, never in pre-season, regular season or post-season, have I seen the first-teamers on defense play that well since the Super Bowl years.

Our defense should be top five easy.

gurode is still running out and not blocking anyone. not sure if that's what he's told or he's confused. but he'll get to the linebackers and just stand there waiting for someone to take him on. maybe he's supposed to read the guys and see who flows to him.

Yes but it had some people here convinced that Free had taken McQ's job. I think that they (the coaches) just wanted McQ to be ready on the Right in case Colombo was out for a longer period...his was the most worrisome of the two starting tackle problems. Plus they want McQ to be able to play both positions so he can go to the games as a swing tackle backup.

OH my god, the McQuistan love on this board is through the roof. I'd bet good money that even if Colombo was at 100% and practicing all camp, McQuistan would still have been moved to RT when Free starting coming around. It only took Free a couple weeks, but he has definitively taken the backup LT spot, which was previously held by McQuistan. Whether that's "taking his spot" or not is meaningless. It's his now when McQuistan once had it.

Ummm...then why did McQ come in and play LT after they pulled Flo in the first half? I didn't see Free until the second half. I think your hippie past is showing with all this "Free Love" stuff.
