Ummm...then why did McQ come in and play LT after they pulled Flo in the first half? I didn't see Free until the second half. I think your hippie past is showing with all this "Free Love" stuff.
Doug Free was inactive for the game because of injury. You didn't see Doug Free at all.

LOL.

I guess we'll have to wait until Free gets over whatever booboo kept him out last night and see who plays in the next game.

For the record I'm not anti-Free...I'm all for him turning out great. He just hasn't proven anything to me yet whereas I've seen enough of McQ to have confidence in him. Free is a rookie with some strong points and some weaknesses and he has people like you drooling all over him. I'm just standing back and avoiding the drool for now and until he proves something.

It's a sprained MCL. You've really got your thumb on the pulse of the Cowboys this season.

It doesn't exactly matter whether he impresses you or not. He apparently impressed the coaches enough to give him the position formerly played by McQuistan. But don't worry. McQuistan is still the 3rd string LT.

You're right it doesn't really matter what YOU or I think or who you want to call 2nd or 3rd string. What will matter will be who will make the trips when you can't take everyone...I'm betting that will be McQuistan because he can play both spots and play them well. Whereas Free is still a work in progress and doesn't run block all that well. Don't let you Free Love cause you to lose sight of reality.

No, it doesn't actually matter who they take as the swing tackle. What really matters is who will be starting the week after an injury really happens, in which case it'd most likely be Free at LT and McQuistan back at swing tackle. It also matters who starts next season if Flo isn't re-signed. Given that Free beat out McQuistan in a matter of weeks in his rookie season, I think it's pretty clear who's more likely to get that nod.

OGT, as usual you are letting your wants interfere with your vision. Its been very clear that McQ is going to be the swing Tackle backup for both sides. Its also been clear that he was kept at RT mostly due to the FACT that Colombo was going to be gone a lot longer then the Hotel. He was placed at the area of greatest NEED- which is where you put your best guy. Sorry to ruin your fantasy.

OGT, maybe if you listened to SPARANO- you know, the O LINE COACH, maybe you would not embarrass yourself so much.

Wants? I'm just reading the writing on the wall. Free was a first day rated LT pick that was highly touted because of his athleticism. His only marks were that he played small ball and had a foot injury.

McQuistan's claim to fame is solely that his twin brother is good. I think he'll be a solid backup tackle for much of his career, but he doesn't have the talent that Free has.

The reality is that McQuistan came into camp with the backup LT spot. It was his. After a couple weeks, it was someone else's. That someone else came in and performed well against one of the best passrushers in the NFL.

Do you think Sparano had any say in the decision to make Free the backup LT?

It is still in question whether or not Free beat him out of they simply wanted McQ to move to right tackle for some experience and because there was more doubt about Colombo than about Flo. They want McQ to be the swing tackle so while they had him work at RT that left the spot open for Free for a bit. You are making some pretty broad assumptions about Free beating out McQ. Your bold assertions aside...a lot remains to be seen.

i didnt think romo should have thrown the ball that was int
i think thomas makes this team as well
spencer isnt making anybody sit up and notice but i think he will come on
got a feeling folk will be the kicker
nice crowd for a preseason game

Was you at the game? I hought that also. Last week, maybe 60%, more like 80% last night. Very humid there last night, but a slight breeze at the end was around, felt good.

Some of your thoughts on the game were same as mine. I like the way this offense looks. defense always hustling. Everyone looks like they are doing what mthey are supposed to do. Even though I would not always be able to tell. But I'm sure the coaching staff says there were missed assignments.

I like the look and play of Joey Thomas. Stanback looks good, and fast. Spencer will be fine, needs experience. Tyson Thompson looked much better on KO returns this week. He actually made some moves, looked to get outside to hit the corner. Made some real nice runs. For a while I wasn't so hight on him, but after last night, he is a great 3rd down back to change things up. By saying great, I mean in a change up role, not HOF great.

To me it looked like romo forced the throw on the INT more than the WR. But that was my viewpoint from the stands. I need to watch it on TIVO yet. Will do that later today.

Carpenter & Burnett were playing very well also.

I don't think there's any doubt that it was a combination of Free beating him out, Marten not playing very well, and wanting McQuistan to get experience for the swing tackle position. Like most things in life there were a multitude of factors. If Free had not looked as good as he has, McQuistan would never have moved. But it's not exactly a fair comparison. Free was a first day rated draft pick with much more experience than McQuistan. He was drafted to eventually take the LT spot.

I don't doubt that you have no doubt that there is no doubt that what you want to believe is true but I have a great deal of doubt about it. And I doubt that your lack of doubt has any more basis than you own hopes for the player that you doubtlessly support. It seems to me that there is a great deal of doubt about the circumstances here.

By people with an irrational love of a project 7th round pick.

Where he was drafted is utterly irrelevant. We all know that.
Not exactly. It is evidence of their talent coming into the league. It's certainly not a perfect indicator, but it also isn't utterly irrelevant.

Ahh the old seventh round pick card...I've been waiting on that

Of course we can ignore the fact that Free is also a second day pick and a small school project with injury problems. Again your own irrational Free Love is clouding your vision.

You should expect it. It's evidence of one being better than the other when coming out of college.
