Ok I cant say that JG masterminded all this, but he may have.
First get rid of Romo, that started last year by not letting Romo come back or play, JG was involved in that.
Now not resigning many players on defense and offense.

So now with 2nd year QB, and many new players on defense, and some on offense, JG will not be
expected to go to SB.

Had they kept Romo as starter, and resigned more players, he would then be expected to win it all.

But now as things have turned out who expects a SB run this year ?
Would JG have good excuse for not winning in playoffs in 2017?

I think all this extends the "process" and JG for many more years

Dak has to develop and grow, the defense has to be built, new players have to be developed.

But mainly getting rid of Romo was the best thing for JG, as long as Romo was the starter
he was expected to win ( if Romo wasnt hurt) but now with Dak, there are several years
of excuses built in.
The team will be competitive for the div title, and be in playoffs most likely, so all is good for JG.

Bottom line is JG might not be able to win against GB in playoffs, or manage the clock,
but he could be a genius at keeping his cushy job.

i dont think JG has any excuse.
even though the FO has tied his hands by giving him crap for defense.

I'm pissed we are not going all in. We just had homefield with a 2 rookies for crying out loud! We are right there. But we have no money because of mismanagement of the cap.

Screw that, if he can't lead this team to the playoffs and at least 10 wins, he has to go. I really like him as a coach but, something is holding this team back. We need a new motivator, innovator type coach. It is way to hard to win a super bowl so I won't hold him to that but this team needs to be competitive.

more importantly we don't have to read about how Dallas only has 1-2 year window (which we read for past 5 years). Now its Dallas likely has 10-12 year window. So I agree, there is no need to make rash decisions and just continue to rebuild core. I see Dallas as playoff team for long time. If Dak regresses badly then all of this changes & Garrett is likely on hot seat again. But I don't see that happening. In other words: it's sunny in Dallas.

Jason Garrett doesn't buy the groceries, there is no conspiracy....

Almost every team in the league plays crap defense and if they don't they usually have a bad QB with their good defense and if they have a good QB and good defense they usually have a crap OL and WRs.

It's just how the NFL works.

This is from the thread
  • What would you consider a success and a failure next year
Dak is longterm.

Playoffs = success

No playoffs = failure

See so just make playoffs, and avg fan is happy , media cant say much either .
one poster said a bad year from dak would be ok lol.
JG just ensured another 3 years here, with no pressure to win a SB.
In 2020 there will be some pressure to win a SB, but it just depends on what happens between now and then.

And COTY is a meaningless award . it is also just for regular season.

No Romo means no pressure for JG. add in the other players we lose in near future, and even less pressure.

Garrett is never going to be a well liked coach. He can win 3 super bowls. Fans will find a way to discredit him and wish him gone

I found a way to discredit him as soon as I took a look at what he has accomplished since he's been here for the team, which has been a considerable amount if time.

Then I remembered at all the times he has been out coached when it mattered most. The man is Jerry's yes man. He brings absolutely nothing to the table except that whip he lets jerry beat him with.
