I was there. It looked like he impulsively reacted to a combination of Witten motioning that he scored and the reaction of the crowd when they first showed the replay on the big screen. In the initial replay they showed, Witten's foot was blocked by the referee standing at the sideline. The crowd cheered and Garrett threw the flag. The subsequent replay they showed while the ref reviewed clearly showed Witten's foot out of bounds.

Has he offered any sort of explanation for that ridiculous challenge on the Witten play? Might be the worst challenge ever.

He wanted to make sure he got some face time on national TV last night.

He can't help it. He is a politician at heart after all.

The challenge flag has never been Garrett's friend, whether deciding to throw it or hold it, he's almost always wrong. It takes a special kind of skill to be as inept with the challenge flag as Garrett is.

It's come to the point that I am absolutely shocked when he gets the rare one right.

Garrett has won 66% of all his challenges. Would you like to explain that?

No, if it cost us a chance to use a 3rd challenge late in the game when you could change the whole outcome of a game then you would see a lot of guys "obsess" on here, yourself included.
Not sure I would see it that way.

And your hypothetical about not having a potential challenge left is irrelevent.

It wasn't necessary in the game.

You're still obsessing.

Garrett does make some mistakes..but I would place blame on whomever was upstairs that told him to throw the flag.

I'll bet he's been relieved of his duties..

Ya think?

Still think Garrett made the mistake on his own?

Your reaction is typical of people who want to place blame in the wrong place.

Think he had help.

Your to simple minded and will have to see it that way when it happens.

I'm not a Garrett fan but I don't think we should be too critical about the challenge, especially at that point in the game. There are a lot of things we can should be critical about with Garrett......the challenge flag isn't one of them.

getting way into the weeds here, but is there anywhere that shows the individual challenges vs the overall percentage? because I agree it does seem like he routinely makes bad challenges, so I'm wondering if that's more of a recent thing vs a strong early percentage, or if I'm just biased.

As long as he gets the bad challenges out of his system, I'm cool with it. Save the good ones for the tournament.

I think it feels like he isn't good at challenges because he has lost some in very important situations and wins a lot of minor ones that don't have very much impact. I think he challenged that play simply to try and get Dak his first TD pass. It's obvious no one looked at a replay before he threw the flag.

It was a bad call. I hope they get to the bottom of why it occurred (was there a miscommunication?). But we won, and since it didn't have an impact on the game, I really don't care.

This could not be more inaccurate. It's literally the exact opposite of reality.

JG has one of the most successful challenge rates of all NFL Head Coaches.

Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

I'd prefer Jerry accelerate his training of Garrett in the realm of the challenge flag.

As I understand it, JG got the go-ahead from upstairs and JG went along with it but took the blame anyhow, since he had the last word.
