Garrett as GM?

Yes Jazz, I think it is.

What does he do in training camp? He should not be promoted to GM If he couldn't tell that Weeden was not good enough to Backup Romo, or that the 2018 BC WR group* wasn't going to get the job done.

*Before Cooper.
That 4 and 12 season was all on Jason! Even the QBs we had playing had played well for other teams. I'm not saying you should make the playoffs when your starting quarterback goes down, but there should have been at least 3 or 4 more wins even with an incompetent coach. Garrett should have been gone then!

I prefer to have Will McClay as the GM if Jerry would step aside. Garrett would mostly like end up without a job in Dallas in that case but the team would be on a better path to sustainable excellence.

Remember when the Eagles brought in a hungry coach with aggressive ideas. That Chip guy?
Didn't work out so well.
:muttley:
Not saying keep JG as HC. But be careful what one wishes for.
The way look at that Chip Kelly situation is at least they were trying to get better. No move with Garrett just tells me they are content.

Not really. And this is not defending Garrett. They will try to get better with the same staff with a new OC.
Will see how it turns out. Maybe next season there will be a change at HC.

I wonder how many will want them to lose just to get that change.

I have no problem with Garrett staying as the head coach as long as the staff around him shakes up. That's why I like the Moore promotion. Maybe he can bring this offense into the 21st century.

However, I think nothing short of a deep playoff run (and by that I mean at least the NFC Championship this year) should prevent the Cowboys from making a move with Garrett and possibly promote Kris Richard to the top job.

Why? Because he’s a mediocre head coach? It’s OK to look outside the DFW area for talent.

I’ve always believed what Jerry said when he hired Garrett and named him” the future of the Dallas Cowboys” which was before he named Wade HC in one of the most dysfunctional and unprecedented moves not only in Cowboy history but the NFL.

Everything Jerry has done to protect Jason would support Jerry is All In with Jason. And why else would Jason tolerate the humiliation of being a puppet without the understanding he was protected.

Garrett has brought some class and dignity to the embarrassment which used to be known as the best ran franchise in the league. While Garretts Game Day coaching abilities certainly can be questioned the cultured he’s created along with the talent he’s influenced assembled cannot be. We are in the best place we’ve been since Parcells resurrected us from the 5-11 Funk.

Unfortunately whatever plans Jethro and Son have for Garrett down the line will have to wait so the Football Idiot can continue pursuing his selfish egotistical ambitions. But I already see Coach G as I call him as a Walk Around GM as he attempts to influence and steer the dysfunctional organization in a better direction.

You did a really nice job here of pointing out several positive character traits in Garrett while also reminding us of his coaching shortcomings.

I also enjoyed your relational descriptions of (The Big 3) Jerry, Stephen and Garrett and the correlation between this relationship and organizational dysfunction. Optimism is in scarce supply for the future for me personally towards this team, but you managed to paint a not so horrific picture that eased my overall pessimism at least a little bit. Good pep talk.

Really good stuff man.

The Cowboys' organization just dances to a different drummer than the rest. Jerry, Stephen and Will McClay supposedly comprise the "blessed trinity" ownership of GM responsibilities, according to Jerry's unofficial claims.

Player acquisition has been good for years. The GM trinity has delivered on that score. The problem I have is with the coaching hires and retains.

Garrett is a decent OC. I don't see him as desirable above that responsibility in the NFL. Not HC. Not GM.

Jerry treats him like a son to find a place for instead of an employee to potentially upgrade. I think Stephen delivers more for the team than Garrett.

To do so would be a lesson on the Peter principle. More than likely Stephen will make that decision and will McCray will top the list.

When did the player aquisition begin to improve?

When did the player aquisition begin to improve?

Exactly. The drafts have been generally strong under McClay (except for the Taco pick so far), but who was the last free agent pickup to be a huge acquisition for Dallas?

Maybe Joe Looney or Antwuan Woods can qualify, but neither guy probably would have seen meaningful snaps last year if Frederick wasn't hurt and David Irving wasn't busy being....David Irving.

Any thoughts? Garrett would make a good GM. Of course Jerry would have to move aside....he is getting older. Bring in a hungry head coach with aggressive ideas.

Garrett would make a good GM? You base this on what? Can we just please stop with this stupidity. Garrett should not be the HC and Jerry should not be GM. Garrett as a GM, please.

I think that will happen.

Jerrah and Stephen have invested close to 20 years in him with his playing career included.

They are not just going to kick him to the gutter.

Somewhere in the Franchise he has a place.

Why exactly? What has he done to warrant any lifetime appointment? Garrett sucks.

All I can say is..

standby and see.

Jerrah likes Garrett like he likes Romo.

Jerrah likes to do the rags to riches method with himself and with those he likes.

Garrett was a 2nd to 3rd string QB.

Romo was 4th string at one time

He sees himself in them.

Take Dak

A 4th Rd. Iongshot QB and now?

Jerrah is about to make him a multi millionaire.

You obviously don't not know your owner after 30+ years.

You are doomed to be frustrated as a fan because you are stubborn and unwilling to just enjoy the football and let the sidebar angst issues go.

But I like your posts.

Garrett wasn't a good player. He's not a good coach. How do either of these shortcomings qualify him to be a good GM?

Yeah - he has proved over the past decade he can bring talented players in the door.

Surprised no team has made him an offer for GM yet

I wouldn't be against it at all.
