Garrett Detractors: A dose of reality

The bolded part is probably the best argument anyone could make. This team cannot establish any type of identity because we're always abandoning things too early. I agree with that. This is one of the only legitimate reasons I'm reluctant to can Garrett. I'm always harping on Jones for not riding things out a bit and seeing where it goes.
Nah. Andy Reid, Chip Kelly, Jim Harbaugh... All put in new systems. All improved their teams drastically their first years.

I think the players, especially Tony, would be energized by a change. After seven years of the same thing, our O is incredibly stale.

This argument males no sense at all.

Hey, I bought a car that needs a major overhaul, has three flat tires that need replacement, and the radio doesn't work.

But it could be worse.

I could also have a transmission that isn't working.

So I should be happy?

Garrett hasn't shown in seven years he is a head coach. He was given the job by the man whose name is on his birth certificate and Mr. X.

8-8 repeatedly is NFL HEL. You are not good enough to do anything, and even get into the play-offs. And you are not bad enough to draft at the top of the rounds where the talent resides.

You are in Mediocreville.

Mediocreville

Sittin on 8-8
Watchin the 9ers take
That trophy I wanted all along
The Eagles are makin
The play-offs once again
I have to sit her and keep my mind strong

Wastin away again in mediocreville
Searchin for a LB that covers the seam
Some people say that The Redhead's to blame
But I say, it's the GM's fault

Don't know the reason
Romo was hot all season
Nothing to show but his herniated spine
But January is chilly
My Gosh, please not Philly
If they win I'll drink some strychnine

Wastin away again in mediocreville
Searchin for a guard that blocks the A gap
Some people say that it's Romo to blame
But I know, it's the GM's fault

I hear there's a process
But it leaves such a big mess
Jerry thinks he's been coach all along
But he's nearin' seventy
Not much more longevity
That notion is what helps me hang on

Wastin away again in mediocreville
Searchin for a saftey that reminds me of Woody
Some people say that it's parity to blame
But we all know, it's the GM's fault
Yes, some people say that it's only a game
But we know, it's Jerry's damn fault

Post of the year. I'm pulling out my tequila for Sunday night.

LOL, stop making excuses. Teams can pay for whatever coach they want, every team is making plenty of money. Your delusion is based purely because you are living in the past and think you deserve the best because the Cowboys were a good team in the stone ages. Period. You think you're special, but you're the opposite of special. You don't deserve anything more than what a Texans fan or a Jaguars fan gets and it's a joke that you think you do.

Jerry has trained you well to accept mediocrity.

What is missing here is the understanding that Jerry Jones WILL NOT hire another Jimmy Johnson. In fact, he's more likely to hire another Wade Phillips than Jimmy Johnson.

That's life.

What's deluded about saying it has the highest net worth, makes the most money, and is the most popular in the league? The numbers prove it.

So that's a good thing now?

I thought we were trying to tear that down so jerry can finally listen to us.

And some misbegotten soul has trained you to feel like you deserve more than mediocrity because you pulled a team out of a hat to root for.

The Cowboys deserve a better coach than the Jacksonville Jaguars. This is an indisputable fact. Just like the Lakers deserve a better coach than the Milwaukee Bucks or the Yankees deserve a better manager than the San Diego Padres or Alabama deserves a better coach than Mississippi State. These are things that will just never change. These places will always be more desirable destinations for free agents and coaches than the dregs like Jacksonville. Not all teams are created equally, despite what our futility may lead you to believe.

Why? Because of an established history of winning, location, desirability for free agents, national spotlight and of course the revenue that these elite franchises bring in. Bill Parcells was a hall of famer who came back to coach the Cowboys. He didn't come back to coach the Jaguars. Phil Jackson came out of retirement twice to coach the Lakers, not the Toronto Raptors.

If this job opens up, we could get pretty much anyone we want (in spite of Jerry's idiocy). That's why we deserve better.

Amen; we don't have to settle for a mediocre coach just because JJ is a fool...

A Garrett "detractor" is not what I'd label myself. I'd rather label myself as a "Garrett you've been given ample opportunity to prove yourself, but haven't done better than mediocrity for the past 3.5 years" type of person. I wanted to see Garrett succeed because if there was anyone who could get along with Jerry for the long term, it was probably him. I don't know if he's handicapped by the organization from the top down due to the management starting from the top at GM, but it doesn't matter. Parcells - albeit a well established - HOF coach, was able to turn the organization around from Campo in the same time period looking up with the same GM, and Garrett couldn't ask for a better boss as far as familiarity, trust, lack of initial pressure to perform, patience, and relationship, as well as relatively established talent including a franchise QB, is concerned.

It might be time to step away from the keyboard for a bit. Although I do think you might have a point, posts like this certainly aren't helping you make it.

I thought it was kinda witty myself; I haven't used the word misbegotten in quite some time.

You're right, it's basically a throwaway, dumb thing to say but really no worse than someone saying I was trained by Jerry. One bad post deserves another.

Because it doesn't have anything to do with anything. You're a deluded fan who thinks you deserve a better team than a Jaguars fan because of the team you randomly followed. You don't.

So unless a team is considered the "worst" team in the league, you are spoiled as a fan of a NFL team? This smells of elitism. Us po folk deserve what we get and should be happier for it?

I don't know where I would draw the line, but it's probably closer to "worst" than "winning record with shot at playoffs in Week 17".

Despite the crybabies we have here posing as fans, we are not even in the bottom half of NFL futility over the last 17 years. Nobody feels sorry for a crybaby.

Who is asking for anyone to feel sorry for us? We are simply discussing why this team could be in a "better" position than it is now. This offends you?

This is a very well thought out post and states what many of us feel in much more articulate way :)
