Did you guys see his presser yesterday? He was cutting people off, left and right. Giving even-more-harmless-than-normal answers to every question. They even asked him at one point if he were doing alright, which he answered curtly again. Even his body language at the podium was confrontational.

This on the heels of him giving the Dez story to the SF media first, and reportedly talking to the national media about (was it Dan Bailey?) instead of local media on the day of the game.

Obviously, this is not normal behavior for him, which begs the question, why is he doing it? The knee-jerk reaction is probably that he was miffed by their coverage, and subsequent criticism of his handling off, the Dez Bryant missed MRI. But those stories are a dime-a-dozen during his time in Dallas, and he's never had issues managing those perceptions before. He could just as easily have handled that heat by insisting it was an internal team issue and that they'd handled it as such, which is what he normally does when something like this crops up.

Instead, he appears to have picked a fight here on purpose. Has he just had enough? Is he maybe (finally) cashing in on the us-v.-the-world mentality that the Giants used so effectively under Coughlin (shout out to @theebs, because I know you and I both have wanted to see that for years now)? Using MRI-gate to get the team to rally around Dez to bring everybody together closely? I know, I know, it's conspiratorial, but sometimes it's fun it indulge. And you have to admit, if he weren't baiting the local media on purpose, why keep up the aggression the day after the big win following the mini-controversey? Why not let it die down like it would and go back to business as usual?

If you haven't seen the presser yet, I encourage you to at least watch a few minutes of it to see how combative the tone was. I can't think of another, better, rationalization for his attitude yesterday. Anybody got a better explanation?

At 8:50 is the 'are you ok?' question. Note, he doesn't even crack a smile in his response.

Grumpy Garrett is my favorite Garrett. These last 2 press conferences have been his most entertaining ever. Usually they are so bland and boring

The Cowboys are ranked 4th in the league in fewest penalties right now and people dislike Garrett but his teams always fight for him.

For the record it is not about the number of penalties or our rank, it is about the penalty itself ! I don't hate Garrett also for the record and i do realize players do fight and like him but they need to respect the fact he is the coach and when they do something that is dumb he will hold them accountable and lay into them ( Players also respect that BTW). I just want him to be more assertive when the time calls for it ! Thats all

Brice Butler's Penalty was dumb and at a crucial time in the game and it stopped a drive ! Garrett should have been pissed !

The flip side of the coin

Morris claiborne took a penalty forgot which game i think it was the giants game and he held a receiver at the line ( maybe OBJ) and it was gonna be a huge gain. That was a smart penalty since it cost us only 5 yards instead of a TD not sure if anyone else noticed it !

I'm glad Garrett doesn't feed info to the media. Certainly wouldn't do the team any good if he did. I don't depend on his press conferences for entertainment either, so as long as he does what the league requires of him I don't see a problem.

I think it's funny as hell that he's tweaking the Dallas media, especially since the apparent feud evidently started with them pouting over something unintentional on Garrett's part. They've been intentionally tweaking him for a long time.

Its shocking how little coverage there is of the bengals. I always like to read the other teams papers and website and this week there is basically nothing for the bengals. The newspaper and the website seemingly get updated once a day with like 1 article and video. Its odd.

We're spoiled. The team itself puts out, what, 15 hours a week of A/V coverage in-season? Plus all the beat reporters, local news, and blogging that follows them around.

He's pissed because someone, I think JJT, called him out for outright lying to them about Dez.

Get over it, is what he should tell JJT.

He owes them nothing, and when the reporters and media become the story they have failed to do their jobs IMO.

This isn't about them or their feelings, it's about the football team, and I would expect the HC to protect his players and what goes on inside. He doesn't need to sell his players out and lose their trust for the media.

Yep and all the east teams essentially do the same so when we play them there is a ton of coverage. Probably too much in each market. There is a ton of emotion amongst all 4 east teams fan bases though so it makes sense.

really weird with the bengals though, its like they are a minor league baseball team or something.

I always hated much of the local Dallas media--they were both clueless about football and incredibly entitled on top of it--but as soon as Watkins told Wade he could do a better job coaching the team, they jumped the shark for me. Watkins ought to have been fired on the spot.

JJT, too, is a guy I don't understand how he has a job. On top of his chicken-wing screw up, he's got an agenda, and he doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to the sports he covers.

the jjt chicken wing bit is an endless well of fun. The hardline still goes back to it from time to time. JJT has a radio show on espn 103.3 now. I cant believe people don't call everyday and do the chicken wing bit.

Jason Garrett is one of those semi nerds that takes it and takes it and then one day loses his cool and fist whips the biggest guy in the room.
Sort of like Eli and Peyton Manning.... Just nerds that could kick all of our butts if it came down to it.

Jason isn't kicking anyone's butt. He is looking more like Lou Holtz all the time, weighing in at about a buck 50.

Good for Red. Dallas sports media is some of the worst in the industry. They are lazy, uninformed, and bullies who use to cower in front of the Tuna but completely disrespected Wade. I hope he keeps it up.

You mean he didn't start with......."what's going on guys"? He's really pissed!

You know, I hadn't noticed that. Unless it was cut off from the video, he didn't. Though he does appear to have been smiling a bit to start.

I'd be feeding wings to the media after every leaked story I was unhappy about. :)

I had to stop following Hill on twitter, he is so bad

always has been. I met him at the stadium a few years ago during a preseason game. I think his wife or gf was in my section. Really beautiful woman. He was standing up at the top of the stairs. Seems to be a really nice guy.

He just likes to cover the spectacle instead of the football, which is his choice I guess.

Something is definitely not right, and it seem's to me the JG/Media relationship is as bad as it's ever been. I really don't understand why/how it happened. It's curious for it to happen now with the team 3-1 and the team winning games without Romo. JG has been here (as a HC) for 5 years now. Dallas media have been calling for his job off and on over the past 2-3 years. JG has been around the Dallas media as a coach and player for pretty much his entire playing and coaching career and the media have asked the same questions and tried to stir up controversy the same way. I think its more than the Dez/MRI situation. Behind the scenes something bad must've happened on top of the Dez/MRI situation.
