It's pretty interesting.

Although I do agree it's dumb to pick a fight with anybody who buys ink by the barrel, the team does have a lot of room to push on the media here. Especially if they can keep on winning. It's kind of funny to watch the media overreact to it and then act like the overreaction is justified. It probably was just a reminder and a course-correction for them today and it'll be back to business as usual tomorrow ("How you doin', guys?"). But in the meantime, it's kind of fun to see it going down.

The team has a LOT more room to push than the media does. The media relies on the Cowboys for news. As an example, If the Cowboys suddenly said to the Star Telegram (or Dallas Morning News) that they would have ZERO access to players, coaches, the facilities as long as Reporter X was covering the Cowboys, you can bet that reporter would be reassigned to something else and they have someone else as their Cowboys reporter.

Would the old reporter skewer the Cowboys? Maybe, but at any point the Cowboys could pull the plug, so the media doesn't want to piss them off too much. It's not like there's a shortage of media desiring to cover them.

Did you guys see his presser yesterday? He was cutting people off, left and right. Giving even-more-harmless-than-normal answers to every question. They even asked him at one point if he were doing alright, which he answered curtly again. Even his body language at the podium was confrontational.

This on the heels of him giving the Dez story to the SF media first, and reportedly talking to the national media about (was it Dan Bailey?) instead of local media on the day of the game.

Obviously, this is not normal behavior for him, which begs the question, why is he doing it? The knee-jerk reaction is probably that he was miffed by their coverage, and subsequent criticism of his handling off, the Dez Bryant missed MRI. But those stories are a dime-a-dozen during his time in Dallas, and he's never had issues managing those perceptions before. He could just as easily have handled that heat by insisting it was an internal team issue and that they'd handled it as such, which is what he normally does when something like this crops up.

Instead, he appears to have picked a fight here on purpose. Has he just had enough? Is he maybe (finally) cashing in on the us-v.-the-world mentality that the Giants used so effectively under Coughlin (shout out to @theebs, because I know you and I both have wanted to see that for years now)? Using MRI-gate to get the team to rally around Dez to bring everybody together closely? I know, I know, it's conspiratorial, but sometimes it's fun it indulge. And you have to admit, if he weren't baiting the local media on purpose, why keep up the aggression the day after the big win following the mini-controversey? Why not let it die down like it would and go back to business as usual?

If you haven't seen the presser yet, I encourage you to at least watch a few minutes of it to see how combative the tone was. I can't think of another, better, rationalization for his attitude yesterday. Anybody got a better explanation?

At 8:50 is the 'are you ok?' question. Note, he doesn't even crack a smile in his response.

Yea, he seemed very pissed off for some reason. I was thinking, "dam, didn't Garrett not realize they won?". I have seen him happier after a loss than what he was yesterday.

Your guess is as good as mine Idgit, maybe this is some type of reverse psychology on the Dallas media or something, I got no idea so your theory sounds pretty legit to me buddy.

Or we could all be overthinking this and he was pissed because he wanted to celebrate the win over the 49ers and his wife "had a headache" if you know what I mean. Had to take a cold shower instead.

Love the new attitude, now let's put down the hand clappers and a put a little more foot in the arse
Just once I would love for Garrett to just go off on somebody on the sideline when they *** up.

Like get in Butler's face after that taunt penalty and just read him the riot act right there on the sideline. Just one time I would love to see that instead of the constant clapping all the dam game.

You never saw this guy clapping the whole dam game, especially when a player totally ***** up.

“Just want to stay aggressive throughout the game, and it was important for us to get a first down in that situation,” Garrett said.

“When Dak raised up and he hit Beasley on the second down, he’s playing to win,” Jones said of Garrett. “That says as much as I could possibly say about his approach to this team and what he’s doing with this team. That was a play-to-win play.”

Wait a cotton picking moment here. I was told that Red does not call the plays and should not be held accountable for the poor play calling in the past.

Yet, both Garrett AND Jerry are saying otherwise. Jerry absolutely is giving Jason the credit and Jason is eating it up with a spoon.

I guess head coache's really are accountable for every coaching decision made, especially in critical situations. Just like managers are in the real world. Imagine that.

He cannot discipline the players, hire his own staff, gripe at the GM about the crap he is served up as talent, or complain to the President about the GM.

Who else does he have to punk?

Certainly not his wife Brill. She can take him in the best two out of three.

I was hoping to hear JG keep repeating "we're on to Cincinnati." Channel your inner Hoodie Coach Garrett!

Why should he be mad at the DFW media? They've handled him with kid gloves.

The coaches all have communications devices on the sidelines. Linehan calls the plays, but it's an offensive staff decision much of the time and in between plays. Just like everywhere. Yet another reason why the play calling criticism of a specific coach isn't usually a practical criticism in the first place. Linehan does the actual communicating with the QB, though I don't even know if the HC has access to the QB's helmet or not.

In short, though, you need a complete staff that works together efficiently on game day.
