PHOENIX – Following Ronald Leary’s free-agent departure, La’el Collins has a “great opportunity” to step back in at left guard first rather than a possible move out to right tackle, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett says.

“I think that would be in his best interest,” Garrett said. “But again, he has some position flex. Both those guys played tackle in college so they have a lot of experience in games at a high level doing that. But we’re going to give him a chance to play left guard first.”

This clears up where they plan to look at Collins first!

The club will seriously miss Leary. He was the only FA lost that was significant. Collins is a big talent and may well fill that job. Lets hope.

Well I kind of figured we let Leary go because Collins would take his place. I suppose they didn't want to pay the entire line big money anyways. Hopefully Cooper can play up to his draft stock.

Agreed. In perfect world Leary would've stayed Lg and we kick out Lael to RT with Chaz as our swing guy. I too have faith La'el will do a nice job at Lg
Yep. I hate the salary cap AND FA!

This is the direction the team has obviously wanted to go if they have their choice. They obviously like Green, but you have to be concerned about him staying in the lineup. If he goes down, with what Cooper and Bell can give you at LG, best bet might actually be to move Collins (assuming they give him reps at RT in camp). I don't like that, though, because Collins still needs work inside.

Let's hope Bell or Cleary or a rookie look good enough at OT that it's an easy decision.

We'll see if Chaz Green wants to play football or just collect a check on the bench. This is his opportunity to earn tens of Millions in the future.

Garrett probably still has hope that Free changes his mind and Green is the guy they want to play RT just depends on if he can stay healthy.

Can't have 5 guys across the line getting paid big $$. Keep the big 3 and keep drafting or developing the other two.

I agree but don't be surprised if Collins doesn't get an extension if he impresses this season. I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of his deal in choosing us. I'm sure the next contract came up since that what he was playing for.

I would normally be against it but at this point, I see no players on this roster not already signed or will be signed soon(Martin) that we have to resign in the next two offseasons. Byron Jones hasn't earned that distinction.

i'm actually really excited to see collins back at guard. he showed huge pancake potential as a rookie. i'm looking forward to seeing him continue to develop.

If they're not going to make a concerted effort to play Collins at right tackle, don't bother at all. Half-assing it doesn't do anyone any good. If it were to happen, Collins would need to be taking a lot of reps there from the get-go, and if he's not, it won't work. And, if that's the case, Cooper is a backup for sure and not a starting option.

Given Chaz Green's total lack of physical reliability, I think there should be as many other options for that spot as possible.

Collins is not gonna be Right Tackle

We are going to roll with Chaz and Bell will be the Swing tackle.

But the pundits will CLAIM there's a chance

A SMALL chance of a blizzard in HELL chance

They would be the 5 biggest $$$$$ on my team. I consider them that important....

That's well and good, but if you don't keep drafting linemen in the first 2-3 rounds of the draft, that plan will eventually lead to holes in the unit that is supposed to be the defining unit on our team. We got lucky to have Leary and Collins fall in our lap as UDFA's, and you can't count on that happening very often.

I'm uncomfortable with Collins at RT, but I have very little faith in Green staying healthy. The g/t we just signed makes me feel a little better, but I would like us to draft a tackle, at some point. Our O Line is our bread and butter, don't screw it up Jerry.
