Jason Garrett is not ready to name a starting left guard for Sunday's game against the New York Giants. He said Chaz Green should be able to practice after being limited with an ankle injury for the last week. Jonathan Cooper is the other candidate. - Todd Archer

Just name a guy, give him a vote of confidence, and if he struggles-- put the other guy in. It's not rocket science lol

The pointless indecisiveness Garrett displays at times is frustrating. What does he possibly gain by NOT naming a starter at this point?!

Oh wait-- I'm sure someone will suggest he's pulling a "belichek" by making the NYG gameplan for two guys

For real. The smart move is to name Cooper the starter and then talk about how valuable Green is as a backup to multiple positions.

How do you name Green a starter knowing he is inevtably going to get hurt and you'll be relying on Cooper anyway?

Yawn. I think its a flip of a coin. There's a gnats *** difference between the two of them.

The smart thing is playing your 5 best, especially against the G man rush

Like others have said. Green is the choice, for the first 5 plays until he's hurt enough to miss 2 more weeks. Then he can play another few series, and rest some more. Rinse repeat.

Is Cooper isn't good enough, I'd suggest we forget the K. Moore silliness and sign a scrap heap guard who can hold hands with Fredbeard and Tyron enough to hold the fort.

It's pretty well known if you listen and read on DC.com that Garrett wants Green to start at LG but, he just can't be trusted to
stay on the field. If Green can be ready to go by Friday, he will get the start for this week anyway.

If Green's health wasn't uncertain, a starter already would have been named. The Cowboys clearly want him to be the guy, but can't trust his health.

Maybe Coop will change their minds. He's doing or not doing something important. Green's health is giving him a shot he wouldn't get otherwise.

I think the differences between the players are quite distinct, but don't necessarily show that one is a better choice than the other.

Green plays more of a power game, delivering a punch to stun and knock back defenders initially. If he makes contact he wins. He also has good feet, but will get caught using bad technique at times.

Cooper uses good technique, squaring his lower body well to absorb defenders, but he doesn't have a good initial punch. He catches and walls off defenders rather than jolting them back. This works most of the time because he is able to eventually anchor with his lower body, but defenders can drive him back to the QB. I believe the better ones will be able to take advantage of the fact that they are able to get into his body by using power.

That's why I favor Green if he can stay healthy. I think the technique concerns can be cleaned up but I don't think the lack of a good punch/power can be. Maybe I'm totally wrong, though, and Cooper's method will work fine.

What I was referring to is neither one of them is up to the level of the rest of the starters. Neither of them is equal to Leary in any way shape or form at this point.

I really believe based on what I've seen from Green that he could be (including his tackle work because we haven't seen that much of him at guard), and possibly even an improvement because he has better feet. However, the Cowboys "gambled" on Green's health and it clearly is a bad gamble. Cooper is merely the fallback option for that, and I agree that he is not equal to Leary.

Frankly, paying Leary and moving Collins to tackle would have been my first option, partly because of Green's health concerns.

I don't get this insistence, bordering on stubbornness. The Cowboys' offense never looked better all preseason as they did against the Colts. With Cooper at left guard, not Green. They moved the ball up and down the field at will, And Cooper ended up with the best graded performance of all the linemen. What more do they need to see?

And the Colts were also the worst defense they faced. It's a whole different ball game on Sunday night.
